Wedding Song - God Knew That I Needed You

A GOOD CHANGE OF PLANS :-D

I woke up Monday morning intent on going after 2 tomato plants and a container of onion starts. I was going to Adna, to an outdoor plants sale Bob and I had visited for a decade – or better. I’ve never been successful at starting tomatoes or onions from seed … and I’ve been gardening for 4 decades. So, this trip is {a necessity} for me.

And it was a big step for me - I had only ever made this run with Bob: Monday I was relying totally on memory and some hastily jotted down directions ...

I took Bob’s thermos & travel mug with me. I wanted him with me in some small way.

Coming up over Coal Creek, and slipping over Delemeter, I came upon a County Mower/Limb Trimmer:

The air was filled with the sweet scent of freshly cut grass and the pungent sharp odor of freshly cut Fir. It smelled SO GOOD! So “Springy” ;-)

Perfect for a sunny country backroad drive :-D

I met two log trucks … one coming/one going … on Delemeter Road; it is refreshing to know I am not the only  one bucking inslee's order to stay home and destroy the economy simply because he wants to rack up political points. And one driver making the curve; who was seriously over the line, coming at me. Kinda got my blood pumping for a split second before he corrected himself and got back on his side where he belonged.

Coming off Delemeter, onto West Side Highway, I smelled woodsmoke from early morning house warming fires … and the scent of bacon on the breeze. Someone had their windows open (that woodstove must have got too warm; LOL) while they were cooking breakfast. It made me hungry: I left the house without eating, and only had one cup of coffee – plus the travel mug I had with me in the car …

I could almost hear Bob saying, “Are we in a hurry, Lead Foot Lizzie?” Maybe I was trying to outrun the bacon smell ;-)
Little Crane Restaurant in Vader
Getting to Winlock via Vader
Winlock. I like backroads that run through historical places. Freeway traffic is boring - and it misses all the good stuff. MPO
I drove straight through; did not cross the railroad tracks, but moved straight ahead only.
Evaline! I'm on the right road. Hallelujah!

Frosty’s is an old train stop/boardinghouse turned restaurant/bar; and the interior is still pretty rough (except for the plumbing and grill, everything is original) – there are no frills here; but I like the ‘feel’ of it. It feels like it was full of hustle and bustle back in the day ;-) Bob & I used to drive to Frosty’s every once in awhile just to have a hamburger and fries – I liked their garlic fries: SO YUMMY! I need to get back here on my own. It will be strange to go in there without Bob, but I’ll go in the daytime, and maybe some of the weirdness of walking through the door without Bob won’t be so acute:

Frosty’s in Napavine
Hillcrest FoodMart

We used to drive up here to get Aza's Dino Gummies (local stores did not sell them); they were his treat reward for potty training milestones. I bought some chicken tenders and jo-jo’s, and opened the hatchback to calm the stomach acids the bacon smell earlier had set into motion: I missed the 9 to 10 hour at the nursery while I ate, and I didn’t care. They basically opened early for Seniors to shop before it was opened to everyone: I don’t live in fear – no one outruns the Grim Reaper. I’m on the road basically to enjoy the drive … and to shop when I get there …

I was shaking my head … People watching was a fun thing Bob and I did together: a spectator sport, if you will ;-)

Breakfast ate, I followed my notations and reached my destination 3 miles up the road. I was stoked! And beaming because I knew Bob would be so proud of me :-D

This little solo lobo outing is a big deal for me:

I have arrived at my destination.

WTHeck? The owner and his family was setting up beyond the fenced off entrances, so I asked them, “What gives?” He said, “We won’t be open until Wednesday.” The girl who gave me the information FOR TODAY must be a new girl who mixed up the setting up day with the Opening Day. So, I will just have to come back Wednesday morning to spend my $$ ;-)

That’s okay – I don’t mind the drive ;-)

I almost said ‘Mt Hood’: forgive me majestic Rainier! Bob was on my mind, and he always liked Mt. Hood

While I was in the neighborhood … I stopped at the little Mom ‘n Pop Store on the corner and asked where the main highway would take me if I keep following it forward: I was told it would drop me right into Chehalis. GOOD! I have been itching to find the backroad that would get me there :-D

I knew I could make a loop drive back home through Chehalis because Bob had done it many times to please me with a drawn-out drive ;-)

6 miles of backtracking led me right to Chehalis :-D

So next time I want a leisurely loop-road-country drive, I will make this same drive BUT turn right … into Chehalis instead of left towards Adna.

I crossed the bridge and the overpass over the freeway, and made a touchdown. I was excited to start my solo lobo adventure!

This was a GOOD change of plans :-D

Chehalis. I was a little intimidated, because I’d only been here with Bob. But I felt pretty confident … and prayed I wouldn’t make a wrong turn and get lost in that small-town-City.

I drove straight through: up the slight incline, through town, and to the stop sign … where I recognized my surroundings, and turned right towards Jackson Highway. And home. I knew I was headed in the right direction, and if I was needing affirmation, I would just stop and ask someone. I’m not shy about asking for help when I need it.

If I got lost enroute I couldn't call Bob and have him talk me back on track. Bob was my human GPS system. He never got lost. Ever. But, Bob is no longer here; and I am a fledgling earning my wings solo lobo …

A familiar landmark! Further up the road, I passed more familiar landmarks. I was smiling from ear to ear ;-)

Along Jackson Highway, I came to the Historic Jackson House. I always stop here when I come this way:

Jackson House on Jackson Highway.

This cabin is part of Bob’s indirect family heritage – Matilda was pioneering woman married at one time to a man related to one side of Bob’s family tree. There is a State Park named for her further up the highway, and Bob and I stopped there several times. I think the cabin is pretty cool, and the Park is a nice place to stop and rest for a bit – it’s small and unpretentious, but it’s a nice stopping place.

Further along the highway is the Lewis & Clark State Park. Bob and I had stopped there one day when we were driving around, and it really didn’t appeal to us – while I like primitive campgrounds, this one was really atrocious. I read some time ago where it had been updated and the grounds and trails upgraded to be at least useable. Some time when I’m this way again, I might nip in and see what it’s like now …

Driving along, I passed the Grange and the little strip Airport and knew I was coming up on Toledo. So now I know that if I drive to Chehalis via Toledo … I need to drive straight past the Airport spur of Jackson Highway that would take me towards Packwood. I would pass the old Monastery that is now the Cowlitz Tribal Housing Office Building, and drive straight through with no turns at all.

Passing through Toledo, and entering into the backside of Castle Rock, I passed Paradise Cove RV Park. We stayed there one year - 22 years ago. We had sold our house in Cathlamet about 4 years previously and decided to buy a 5th wheel and just travel, working jobs that were available to make ends meet until Bob could retire full time. Bob’s folks had done that, and we didn’t have any kids at home at the time … Alex had graduated by then, and Stacey got a bee in her bonnet at 16, and left home declaring she’d never return. So, we decided to live a gypsy lifestyle; it suited us at the time and we were still young enough to do it. We didn’t see a 5th wheel that “spoke to me”, so when one salesperson told me they could build one to suit my requirements (this would be our full-time home; it needed to be more than a weekend camper), I detailed what I wanted … and it was built exactly how I requested it. NOW, there are 5th wheels with a back-end kitchen and an entry livingroom – and the bath and bedroom off to the right of the livingroom. I had two slide outs drafted into the design, with a slide out awning, a murphy bed sofa, a little fridge with a bottom freezer, a set-in microwave, and LOTS of “basement” storage space. Bob called me Lucy; and we both laughed because we were both thinking of the Lucy and Dezi Arnez movie, “The Long Trailer”. 5th Wheel today are “standard built” using my specific design. Thanks to ME wanting a functionable full-time upscale 5th wheel – you are welcome :-D

Anyway, getting back to Paradise Cove ;-)

We had our middle granddaughter living with us at the time, and she was about 3-1/2 years old. She had a Hot-Wheels trike she liked to ride, and we had a little dog that needed to be walked to do its business off the RV Site: so, we’d cross the highway and walk the trail down to the riverside. And we’d bring Alyna’s Hot-Wheels trike and she’d ride it while we walked with our Pomeranian, Tyson.

One day, Tyson unwittingly stirred up a nest of ground wasps and they viciously attacked him. He was covered with wasps, and I was beating them off him with my bare hands. My hands were stung repeatedly (that’s probably why I am deathly allergic to bees, wasps, hornets. Yellow jackets, ect. now – I wasn’t THEN; but I am NOW), and those wasps were not giving up – they wanted to kill Tyson! I could not believe my eyes when I saw they literally parting his long hair with their feet so they could reach bare skin to sting! It was horrible. I thought he’d die – but when I called the Vet after reaching the Park again, the Vet said to give him a Benadryl capsule and watch him (I did – like a hawk) and rush him into town if he didn’t rebound. The Benadryl did the trick, but I never forgot the sight of watching those wasps go after him like venomous vampires.

Looking at the beach today, I saw heavy iron deposits in the water:

Wild water. I’m a rock hound (Lucy, remember? LOL), so every-once-in-a-while we’d try this side of the bridge.

I didn’t get what I set out for this morning, but I had an enjoyable drive … and I finally got to Chehalis and back without getting lost enroute :-D

The roads were pretty open – traffic was light; I pretty much had the highways to myself.

On Delemeter again, I saw baby calves in the field …

I always wanted a farm with baby calves … and baby ducks, chicks, foals, ect. Bob didn’t. I did eventually get my garden and chickens, but that’s as far as Bob would go with the homesteading thing. He grew up in the country on a farm, and he just didn’t want to go back to that way of life. Not even for me. I respected that – but I missed it, I miss it now. I grew up in the city and in the country on a homestead; I always wanted to homestead my own place. Bob didn’t want to experience that with me … but he did make sure I always had homes with space for a nice sized garden (even when we were RV’ing: I did container gardening). And when I finally scored on getting my chickens: he built the Hen House and Hen Pen – and he did a good job of it too ;-) He even got a kick out of my roosters.

He did design and build me 13 gardening boxes when we bought this house 2 years and 10 months ago.

Those loving and considerate things done for me was the extent of my urban homesteading from his point of view. LOL

Homesteading was to Bob what football is to me. We agreed to disagree and not pester the other one with it. We loved each other. I got my garden and chickens (I no longer have chickens - can't have them here), and after years of football drought, Bob got to watch the Seahawks actually WIN the Super Bowl in 2014. And I agreed to live IN – and on the very near outskirts of – Longview, 24 years ago.

Longview is {city} enough for me; it’s a small home-town-feel type of city. I always laugh when people call Longview a city: it just seems like a big town to me. I know Bob didn’t deliberately set me down in Longview and then bail on me. But … sometimes … I do look up at the sky, and say, “Really? You up and left me i.n.t.h.e.c.i.t.y??? Thanks a lot, Babe!”

When I got home, I picked up the mail and received a notice from candy.

There went my day …

This woman will find anything to bitch about; and if she can’t see something to bitch about, she will create a situation to bitch about.

candy scott is to Heron Pointe what nancy pelosi is to DC – I’ll just leave it right there:

candy demanding a signed declaration I will not prune trees without her expressed permission.

I set the letter aside. It doesn’t directly concern me at the moment. I will “sign it” when I have the time and inclination to sign it. Meanwhile, someone in the Park has helped themselves to something on MY private Lot, and I’ll bet a hundred to one candy won’t be concerned at all …

My Tete-a-Tete daffodils were stolen right out of my flowerbed! They left the Cyclamen flower, but lifted the Tete-a-Tete daffodils.

I watered my flowerbeds, and all the flowerpots I have placed around my Lot. While watering, I spotted a ladybug in the parsley ;-)

Over-wintered parsley coming up.

Later this week, I’ll start preparing my garden boxes for Spring planting. I want to get those tomatoes and onions first before I stove myself up. Once I get started on turning the soil over with my Claw garden tool and bending, planting, watering, pinching, staking, ect., I’ll be laid up for a few days.

Because, like with everything else I do (reading a book, cooking freezer meals, crafting … gardening), I don’t stop until it is finished. I suck at pacing myself …

2525: CLOSER THAN YOU THINK

Woke up this morning to my phone feed telling me that our government, under dr. fauci’s suggestion wants to issue immunity cards to keep tabs on who took the coronavirus test … and who didn’t (who’s has been cleared by the government to move freely). I’m not going to have the test: MY CHOICE; I don’t need it, and I’m refusing to be forced to take it. I’m not liking where this whole thing is going; not only are our rights as American Citizens seriously being stomped all over by politicians and doctors – but, this whole {mandatory} governmental overreach reminds me of communist and nazi tactics; as well as Scripture, which forewarned Christians that there would be a day coming where it would difficult to buy or sell without being assigned a government seal-of-approval-number to do so. No, I do not like where this thing is going. But, I’m not scared either: I always knew this day would arrive. I’ve prepared myself to meet it. Of course, I always assumed I’d be going through it with Bob when it arrived … but, I’m not. And that’s okay – I know the outcome. I’ve prepared myself. I trust Elohei in my life, and I know I’ll be taken care of.

Also, now that marijuana has been legalized in every State to fund the state coffers, doctors are now coming out and telling the public what I’ve been saying for the past 4 decades: smoking weed is not good for anyone’s health - there are no legitimate health benefits other than numbing people to their surroundings, putting their response reflexes into slo-mode, and deadening their conscious. The harsh smoke harms the lungs too. This is not “new news” people! I knew this as a teenager in the 1970’s. But, people will do it because it has the governor’s approval. The same people that are screaming at me that I need to stay indoors, are lighting those joints … willingly damaging themselves, engaging in questionable behavior, and not paying attention to what’s happening around them – while worrying about if I’m contagious or not when I go for a fricking walk; they are freaking out about MISLEADING MEDIA FEEDS. Despite unanswered questions, politicians enacted dramatic laws concerning the virus and Citizens.

I’ve been questioning the virus hysteria for months, and have been verbally attacked weak-minded, and uneducated people, touting their “intelligence”; 95% of people in America who should know better have lost their minds and quit thinking logically – they read text, but they can’t read signs of the times.

On the other hand, there are the 5% who recognize bullshit when they smell it, and refuse to cover themselves in it. In this fight for our lives and our Nation, we choose to be armed with faith, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness. Long live, faith, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness ;-)

Normally, I don’t give Rand Paul an ear because he just argues against everything. But, today, he actually made sense when he spoke out against the governor of Kentucky concerning the governors warning that he is issuing a state-wide-order for police to take license numbers of people attending Easter services at churches – stalin, lenin, hitler, castro would be proud to know that their propaganda has paid off with the easily led weak-minded, doped minions; obama, hellery, pelosi, schumer, schiff, the squad … ALL and their ilk are, I am sure, applauding this ILLEGAL and UNCONSTUTIONAL order of bought-and paid for-party line governors.

This is ridiculous – are licenses also going to be recorded sitting in abortion clinic parking lots for willingly murdering babies? I mean, if the governors are really serious about saving lives … this whole thing is out of control: it’s perfectly okay to murder babies by the thousands in America, but Grandma cannot attend an Easter Service because she may cause death and destruction if she {potentially} comes in contact with someone {who may have} the virus bug? LUNACY at political level – governors don’t give a rat’s ass about lives … they’re all eyeing the White House and coveting the presidential seat; and if they have to murder and burn innocent babies, and jail granny on trumped up political BS to get there, they will. It’s time for American Citizens to take America Law back, and vote these political scumbags out of office.

2525 – 6565: These projections have pretty much already been done … or is in the process of being implemented. And it’s only 2020.

7510 – 8510: I doubt the human race will last that long. The obama reign of terror placed chimpanzees, dogs, and cats above human beings – everyone is rushing to humanize chimps, and people are being jailed for “inhumane treatment of dogs and cats” WHILE murdering babies IN the womb … and soon as they exit the womb – and those children the adults don’t annihilate, they mutilate in gender-bender-fantasy medical experiments; hitler’s nazi doctor of horrors, dr. mengele, would be proud of. Mankind, in 2020, is doing all it can to erase humanity off the face of the earth and replace it with mutated and mutilated freaks.

9595: Mankind is doing all it can to halt its progression past 2525; 9595 is at best, a pipe dream.

SO MUCH heavy thinking so early in the day!

My head was aching, my eye was twitching, and my stomach was growling.

I shut the phone off, closed the laptop, and made a toasted cheese sandwich. This is my 2nd toasted cheese sandwich in the past 18 months. Bob liked toasted cheese sandwiches – so did our grandson. We had a toasted cheese sandwich practically every afternoon for lunch. Sometimes with tomato soup. In my mind’s eye, I could clearly see Bob and Azariah enjoying their sandwiches and laughing at a silly joke passed between the two of them. I swallowed hard over the lump in my throat; but, for once, I didn’t cry when hit fast and hard by a memory.

I ate my toasted cheese sandwich with a glass of tomato juice while watching an old romantic comedy black-n-white YouTube movie, “Katie Did It”

Toasted cheese sandwich made with slices of Challah Sabbath Bread; Beef Goulash cooking in the round crockpot in the background.

While I munched, I happened to glance up and was startled to see the tree out front had suddenly burst into leaf! Those leaves were not there when I set my seedlings on the window sill a mere few days ago …

Around Suppertime, my niece Sara, texted me to ask how I am doing … and to share pics of my great-nieces :-D Sara is like a daughter to me, so these girls are pretty close to being granddaughters to me ;-)

Sara’s text read, ‘Hi Aunt Val! Wanted to check in on you and give you an update here … I’m teaching my girls to plant and grow. I learned a lot from you. How’s everything in lockdown?? We are planting lots of veggies and herbs. Got that from you!!! I love you.’ She sent pics of the girls along with her text too:

It is always good to hear from her. I wish we lived closer to each other. But, maybe that wouldn’t be any better than living far apart … I’m not keen on following orders: I don’t sit and obey very well. So, in instances like this virus – and me being a free spirit, I probably wouldn’t see any more of them than I do now. Bob’s niece already took me to task for jumping the threshold and going on trail-walks instead of staying holed up indoors. I’m sure Sara would do the same. I don’t know what Stacey would do: she isn’t talking to me; nothing new there.

I refuse to be ‘mandatorily’ caged for my ‘own good’ …

Tonight, I snacked on a few Ritz crackers and cheese slices. Bob use to like eating Ritz crackers and cheese slices. He would have chuckled at seeing these tiny packages of 16 crackers – I only ate one package, the other is to show what it looks like before opening:

I caught a glimpse of the moon shining brightly through the overhead kitchen skylight on my way down the hallways towards the bedroom …

Thank you, Babe, for knowing me so well; and buying this house for me. I’ll do all I can to keep it; keep it maintained and make you proud of me.

I love you.

Always ~ OX

FEELING STRONGER EVERY DAY

This day, last year, was my first social outing as a widow: Cheryl and Pam had visited me at our home a couple weeks earlier, and decided I needed to get out of the house and engage in socializing again – they didn’t know that I had never really ever socialized solo without Bob. Ever. I don’t make friends easily (I’m too much for some, and not enough for others; so, I stick pretty much to myself. Solo Lobo). They planned a day at Pam’s house out Coal Creek Road – a day of laid back schmoozing, endless cups of coffee, lots of laughter (some tears I couldn’t halt), talks of their husbands and kids  … and reflections all the way around about Bob, and how he had affected all our lives at some point

And I was asked how I was doing.

I heard myself replying, "I'm doing okay - it's getting better."

I was surprised to hear those words come out of my mouth.

And today, this year – just a few minutes ago, I talked to both gals via the air waves since they are hunkered down in their homes obeying the ‘shelter-in place’ mandate. They do get out for walks, but they stay in their own private spaces. I’m the rebel of our small tribe … I jump the threshold on occasion and expand my horizons. I do this wisely; I do this in secluded places. I am using common sense in directing my own life’s actions.

And I respect my friends’ choices – we may not be meeting at our homes at the moment, but we are meeting weekly at noon; with our phones ;-) We are friends. We love each other. We are sisters.

Again, husbands and children were discussed - normal stuff in normal days, in normal families.

Again, I was asked how I am doing. Cheryl and Pam are friends from waaaay baaaack … and they have become my closest confidants now that Bob is no longer here to share my trials, my joys; my struggles, my successes; my opinionated opinions, and my secrets.

Again, I told them “I am doing okay – it’s getting better; I’m getting stronger.”

Am I?

Yes, I believe I am speaking the truth; despite some resurgences of emotional setbacks during this pandemic which makes me feel vulnerable again with memories/emotions I’d rather not deal with at the moment – and bouts of frustrated anger at the restrictions slapped on my life I chafe at having to deal with at this particular time in my life.

I am a firm believer that spoken words have power.

In the early months of my widowhood life, I never thought those words would ever escape my lips.

Missing Bob with a ache that went bone deep, I never thought I’d feel those words ever again.

But, they must be true; or I could not have said them: I am healing.

I NEVER BLAMED ELOHIM

I posted this post to my personal Page as well as a Widow's page, today – last year ... and was immediately lambasted by a woman who said: "I still want to know his reason for my husband dying?"

I was a widow only 85 days: I didn’t know much about being a widow – I had never been a widow before, but three things I DID KNOW … Elohim was not to blame. I was glad my husband was no longer suffering as his earthen vessel broke down. And Elohim does NOT have to give His reasons for doing anything.

I also reminded her that I, too, was recently widowed – "We are all born to die - we begin to die as soon as we take our first breath. Some die sooner that we expect or anticipate. My husband died recently too - and without anticipation: he died quickly brought on by stresses we could not control: I hold those responsible – responsible. So, I know your grief. But I never question God ... ever. Or His timing."

I never question Elohei. N.E.V.E.R.

I never questioned why Bob was dying ... I KNEW who caused the situation. Bob knew who caused the situation – and he said so, when asked. He also forgave ‘little hitler’ before stepping from this life into the next.

I never blamed Elohim that a physical healing was withheld: Bob had already been returned to me TWICE before: the 1st time in 1978, the 2nd time in 1981; Bob TOLD me going to his first doctor appointment following the first 2018 ICU incident that he didn't expect a healing this time ... Bob was ready to go home if that is what Elohim wanted for him.

We were prepared for Elohei's WILL.

And we jumped through the medical hoops mostly because a standing DNR was active and Bob didn't want me to be tied up with ensuing death investigations when it was time for him to graduate.

Of course, I MISS BOB: and I ALWAYS WILL. He was the love of my life. He was my best friend, and a trustworthy confident. He was my lover, passionate and tender; always pleasing. Bob loved me. He was my closest ally; my life coach, and my confident cheerleader. Because Bob loved me unconditionally, I strove to be a better person – for him, for US. Bob was e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g. to me beside Elohei.

But I NEVER, not even once, blamed God for the loss of Bob's presence in my life.

Elohei is the only ONE that kept me from flying apart those first shell-shocked weeks when I moved through my shattered life like a zombie; Elohim is the One, Who, brought helpful, knowledgeable, and steadfast loving friends into my life when family abandoned me over the course of a 10 month period; leaving me to flounder in a grief so deep and wide I thought at times I would drown from the overwhelming weight of it: those friends supported me when swimming the depths of uncharted grief left me exhausted and directionless. I do not believe I would have survived Bob's leaving this earth if Elohim had not held me together with His grace and love.

With everything that’s going on in the world here, below the clouds … I admit I do get a little jealous sometimes that Bob is there above it all; while I am still here – wishing to be there, too, above it all too.

But, NO, I do not blame Elohim for asking Bob to “Come Home, Son”. Bob is with Yeshua, the lover of his soul, his father Bob Sr., and his grandparents – he is in the embrace of love. I am happy for him. I love him.

I am happy for my husband. I love him.

I never question Elohei.

I trust.

I walk in Faith.

And someday, I too, will be beyond the clouds with the ones I love; and was blessed to be loved by, when they walked this earth. There is no sadness in that.
