I had a hankering for tacos for lunch this
afternoon, and I remember reading on FB about a taco truck that sets up out
Rose Valley by the Store there. So, I decided to drive out Rose Valley in
search of the ‘Taco Truck’ (Double J’s Food Court Van):
It was nowhere in sight; so I switched gears and thought maybe I'd grab some chinese food while I was on this side of town: I drove to Kalama
… and Lucky Dragon was closed “due to covid19” (they’d take call in/curbside
orders, but that’s kinda hard to do with no menu). As I was leaving Kalama,
I got a notice on my phone that Double J’s was set up on Talley Way – so I
headed the car back towards Kelso. When I finally found them, they said they “only
do taco’s on Tuesday in Rose Valley between 5 PM & 7 PM”. So, I got a
burger instead.
The attitude of the woman taking my order was
not very nice; she was pretty abrupt and rude. And they don’t give receipts
either. So, I asked her to write the total I paid on the Styrofoam container
when the order was done so I could keep my checkbook balance straight ... and she copped an attitude. It was uncalled for. I was
their first customer of the afternoon: it wasn’t like the cook or cashier had
been run ragged before I put my order in and asked for a receipt.
I walked to the car and waited.
When the order was done and boxed, I bit into
the burger, winced, and almost spit it out: IT WAS AWFUL! The meat was
cheap greasy meat; and the cheese was just as cheap.
But I’d paid precious $ for it. I was not
going to waste that money.
All I could think forcing that burger and
fries down my throat, was ‘I washed my hair for this? I ran around looking
for this food truck only to find awful food and a crappy attitude?’
The people who told me about “this amazing
food!” must eat with swine and like being treated badly: the food truly was
awful – and the service was not “friendly” at all.
I’ll forgo the tacos. And I won’t waste any
more $ at Double J’s Food Truck.
When I got home, Ed & Trudy were starting
their walk around Heron Pointe and I waved at them in passing. I picked up the
mail, parked the car in the carport, and checked the rain barrels (which
were filled, thank You, Yeshua ;-)) – I had managed to set them up correctly;
and was turning towards the house, when I heard Trudy call my name. I met her
at the back fence and she said they had decided to go into town and walk around
the Lake … and would I like to join them? I said, “Yes, I would” – we took their
car.
I don’t normally walk the Lake because it’s
so busy, but I do like my new neighbors – and the 4 mile Lake hike would condition
my legs and lungs (if the pollution didn’t slay me) for the Hike Club
hikes when they start back up.
Ed & Trudy: Orange Azalea bush at the Japanese Garden - which was closed.
Shrimp hued Azalea bush.
An interesting hued azalea.
Yellow azalea bush.
Intriguing trumpet-shaped azalea blossoms.
Baby ducks :-D
GOSLINGS! I've never seen baby geese before.
2 separate groups of baby goslings; with goose & gander standing guard.
A 2-tone Nash car. Bob had a Nash for his first car. This is a very small car … I can’t imagine Bob fitting his 6’-2” frame into a car that size!
Another goose with younger goslings – these babies are not very old; that's why they are dandelion yellow. That bright yellow was what caught my attention.
Ed spotted this turtle sunning itself on a submerged snag.
A Mallard hen with her 3 ducklings.
We spotted another 2 turtles (I large; 1 small) sunning themselves, on the last lap of the hike. Bob would have enjoyed this walk.
It was an enjoyable hike. Ed & Trudy are
good companions. And I learned more about the Mt. St. Helen's Hiking Club.
I was glad I washed my hair for this ;-)
