PHOTOGRAPH ON THE MANTLE

When Bob was still here, in the flesh with me, there was no picture of him/us on the fireplace mantle – there was a small, rectangular fish aquarium that we had bought for our 5-year-old grandson. The fish in the aquarium was his responsibility. We were home educating him, and he was in the “F” Study; the fish was his ‘hands on’ activity.

Before the “F” Study was completed, Bob was in the hospital … and the fish, that had been ignored while I stayed with Bob, died; and our little grandson went home with his mother and older sister. We never saw him again.

After Bob’s spirit left his body, in the winter of 2018, I flushed the dead fish down the toilet, and threw the useless aquarium into the trash can.

Then I dug out the old photographs of Bob and I; and placed those pictures on the mantle. I wanted to be able to see Bob’s face from every angle of the house layout – kitchen, dining room, livingrooom, bedroom hallway … I wanted to see our Wedding Night snapshot, also (tucked into the corner of Bob’s picture frame). Those photographs represented a tangible link to a life that no longer exists.

I wanted it in plain view.

Our Senior Pics - 7 years apart. Bob's taken in 1968; mine taken 1 month after I married Bob, in 1974.

Bob’s spirit has been living in another place now, for 37 months. For 18 months I painfully navigated between the two realities of before and after. For the other 19 months, I have been trying to restructure my present life; and figure out where I belong in it. There is no place left for me in my old life – and the new life is still a work in progress.

Restructuring requires a lot of reshifting – like jigsaw puzzle pieces: some pieces look like they should slip right into place … but the piece doesn’t really belong there, no matter what it looks like, or feels like.

So, you have to put that piece back and sort through the other pieces until you find the right piece – that piece will slide right into place. No forcing. No frustration.

In my past life with Bob, there were a lot of upheavals with unknown outcomes. Constant chaos from family members; both sides of the family tree – Bob was the only constant and stabilizing factor in my life, then.

Bob was my love; my life.

Bob was my home.

And I know I was that for him, too. He told me – he told others, in my presence. I knew I was loved wholly.

And then … Bob was gone.

And I was cast adrift on the sea of life.

All that remained were photographs.

Mainly, the photograph on the mantle.

In my new life, there are new people in it, who care enough to want me to stay around and enjoy it with them. That is a new experience. And I find that I am liking it 😊

In my new life. I recently celebrated my 65th year of life on Earth.

And I’ve decided to purge my new life of last life’s lingering and unnecessary trip-ups. There is very little of Bob’s life left in my current life: clothing, shoes, manly tool shed stuff, ect., was immediately passed on to others could make better use of them than I could (95% of it went to family members). But there are memories of that past life that I must let go of if I am to move fully into my new life. The memories of Bob are all good – these I will keep; not to drown myself in, but to wrap myself in when I need comfort and confidence. The other memories have been nullified and voided by the children, who have changed their names to suit their alternate lives that have absolutely nothing to do with me anymore: I simply no longer exist for them … and they have so totally altered their lives that the life I remember of them, has been politically and socially murdered. They are now societies children, with politically correct social lives and new names. It’s time to box those memories, and place them in the recessed attic of my thoughts pattern: there is no more need to compromise myself to please them, anymore.

I have mourned my old life long enough.

It’s time to step fully into the present.

I can anticipate a future … but I need to fully live in the present.

Minute by minute, day by day.

All of 2021 was a preparation period for this decision.

The final preparation step of 2021, was the realization that I would not be selling the house and moving to the country. God knows I tried! But covid restrictions on realtors was the final break check – moving is never going to happen. So now, finally, after living in Longview since the Fall of 1995, I am setting roots here and making Longview my home as long as I am alive and kicking.

And I’m not doing it “for Bob’s sake”. While it is true that I really have no other option, I have made peace with the situation, and am actually learning to like it here. I do have several local friends … and country friends frequently come to Longview, too 😊

Stepping into 2022; I am shrugging past trip-up weights off my shoulders, and walking forward without a clear sense of direction (I still don’t know how this new life will unfold). But it feels ‘right’. My feet aren’t dragging, and I don’t feel like something has been left undone.

I still get T-boned now and then, with missingness; but the depth and frequency with which I get knocked sideways is a rarity nowadays, instead of an unremitting incidence.

I suppose that is because for the past 19 months I’ve been forced to make major decisions without Bob’s input – and that has made it easier to make smaller decisions, too, without mentally asking myself, “What would Bob do? How would Bob deal with this situation? Where would Bob go to get that done? Why on Earth would Bob do that?” Bob is no longer here – the questions are aimless, and actually irrelevant. I’ve learned to “do” on my ownand when in doubt, ask for advice from friends – or hire help. I did that all the time when Bob would work away from home, and I had to fend on my own until he came home again (although for major decisions, I always waited for his telephoned input). I just lost myself in grief, and couldn’t think for a while after Bob permanently left.

I done as much as I can “in his memory” – and I will always keep love for him in my heart: Bob is my man. But, I’ve got to live for me, too. I do not want to be a walking-talking-billboard for grief. Yes, I am a widow; but I do not want to have my life overshadowed by a cloud of 24/7/365 grieving. I want to be ME.

So, I’m also, limiting time spent with other widows: locally, or online. I can identify with them to a point. But I am not bitter about Bob’s passing. I am not angry with God. And I do not want to immerse myself in the dark depths of despair. Bob and I talked openly about death since 1981 – we always knew the Grim Reaper was hanging around; we knew that at some point, the visit would be made and the ticket punched. Elohim returned Bob to me after his second death in 1981; Bob and I enjoyed 37 more years together, thanks to Elohei’s faithful mercy towards us – neither of us were angry when death came knocking: staggered, but not angry. And I know where Bob lives now … I wasn’t expecting the constant missingness, but I don’t allow despondency to make a touch-down in my life: I boost my spirit by knowing where Bob is, and knowing that someday I, too, will be there. That makes place for joy in my life sans Bob.

And that is why, walking into 2022, I am ready to totally relinquish my past life and fully embrace my new life. I’ve slowly let go over these past 3 years; but any remnants of that life went up in a wisp of smoke from the smoldering embers of a fading 2021, when the last vestiges of my old life were touched with the flame of Change that 2020 ended on.

I’m on my own – on every level.

I know I’m not the only one who is alone: but here, in my small space which has been carved out for MY life, I am standing alone.

There are no sureties anymore, save those Elohim can provide for my life.

And If I am to live fully, as He intends, I must let everything else go.

America is going to Hell in a handbasket with the obama-biden cartel ramrodding their hellish agendas through without proper votes being considered.

The family is in shreds; and the kids seem perfectly content to sit among the tatters and play with match sticks.

Bob is irrevocably gone. He isn’t coming back – and I wouldn’t ask him to, if it were possible. He’s better off where he is, given the way things have turned out since he stepped off Earth.

All I have that represents the life I lived with Bob, is those two photographs on the fireplace mantel. It is not enough: yet, it has to be enough.

As I move into 2022, I have to quiet the memories we shared together, and let the present be louder. I have to consciously step forward without considering how he may – or may not have – matched his step with mine. I have to diligently make new memories that do not dovetail memories of past husband and children/grandchildren. I have to make peace with the possibility that I may not always walk a solo lobo walk the remaining years of my life on Earth; I am placing my life’s unfolding, 100% at the mercy of Elohim’s Plan for me – and preparing myself to roll with the unexpected twists and turns.

I have to let Bob become the photograph on the mantle. My unfolding New Life requests it - it is a serious necessity.

Bob's face & his Remembrance Urn.

This is hard for me to do – it is a hard request.

3 Doors Down – “Goodbye: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUVdm0iFyG4)

But I got through death watch months.

I got through the Celebration of Life.

I got through the past 37 months of “Becoming”.

I can make this requested step.

And the step following … and following.

So help me, God.

A LOT OF THINKING TO DO

GOOD things are happening 😊

It’s been a few days since I last posted: I’ve been busy turning pages in this new chapter in my new life – and filling them in/fleshing them out, with daily happenings.

Friday, I received a notification from Bob’s old Logging Union that there were finds waiting for me to claim. I was confused – we thought we had heard the last from TOC Woodworker’s years ago; so, I called them. I was told that the funds had been placed in trust for me decades ago by Bob (he was always a loving, thoughtful, and providing husband to me), and were definitely waiting to be claimed by me: and I will receive the Beneficiary funds every month for the rest of my life.

So … after I hung up, I smiled through tears as I filled the papers out – and set them aside to be notarized, and mailed off Monday.

I was sad to get the funds: they would not be in play if Bob’s physical body had not died.

I was happy to be receiving the funds: they are bittersweet reminders of Bob’s loving care for me, and my secure provision/protection without his physical presence in my life.

It’s complex.

This happy unexpected surprise gives me a bit more breathing space in the budget after the house is sold and I start a new chapter in my new life in a new locale, with a new house – and all that will require.

((((THANK YOU, BABE!)))) You may have hated living in the country; but your love is going to get me there, just the same 😉

Saturday, I surfed the internet looking at houses for sale – I didn’t see anything that appealed to me.

Sunday, I went to Fellowship; and drove the loop home … veering off at Pe Ell and coming back to Longview via Wildwood and Vader: I didn’t see any houses for sale – just plots of land.

Monday morning, I ate breakfast with David, and enjoyed a 5-hour chat session (I was surprised the waitresses that switched shifts didn’t kick us out). We talked about past times, high school days, the kids, his current family, Bob – we talked about our friendship over a period of 56 years of time! And he gave me tips on getting help (handyman services, ect.) and getting things (a riding lawn mower, ect.), that I’ll need for my new country life.

I told him what I had told Pam Sunday afternoon … I’ll still be making trips to Longview for this and that; and I’ll still want to spend time with them – they’ll just have to call me the night before to set the day and time, because getting together for Breakfast, and Supper, will take a little longer than the 5 minutes from my current house. Depending on where I kick my shoes off in the near future, it could take half an hour to an hour and a half.

Tuesday, I cleaned house like a whirling dervish – taking a brief break to drive into town to notarize my claim, and mail it off.

An honest-to-God 'horseless carriage'.
Half a tank of gas ... gas prices.

The Highlander gives me good mileage – 22 mph in town/in city, and 27 mph. on open roadway/freeway. I’m going to need that extra mileage when I move to the country; a trip “into town” will take a little longer than the 5-minute hop it is now.

The Highlander should see me well through 15 or 20 more years (or my lifespan): it’s good for 300,000 miles & it hasn’t even racked up 30,000 yet, since we bought it in 2017.
HAPPY SURPRISE & BLESSING; Bob is still providing for me ðŸ˜Š

As I was finishing up the floors and dusting Tuesday afternoon, I happened to glance out the kitchen window and saw a U-Haul parked in front of the pigsty next door. Apparently, tessa is finally moving.

I have been waiting for this day.

This woman, like ron cook, made our lives miserable since the day we moved into this Park, in 2017: it was constant drama that was malicious … and baseless.

Since the day ron finally moved – and I sang Hallelujah! – I have been waiting for the day tessa would also move. Now that the day has arrived, I find it to be ‘a little too little, a little too late’.

The excitement I expected to feel isn’t there.

Bob is never walking back into my life: her move won’t change that. Her finally moving, can’t assuage the emptiness to my life that her malicious immaturity and spiteful behavior has caused.

I just want to leave this Hellhole Park.

I do not want to continue living in Longview.

I want to get away from rotten people; with as much peacefulness, as possible.

I have lived in a lot of places, but I have never lived in such a mean-spirited place as Longview.

tessa is moving.

Today, I had a couple hours free before house pictures were taken this afternoon; so, I went for an early morning walk around the Lake – and did some thinking while relaxing my body.

Cooler, early morning walk; due to hot weather later today.
Very early morning - now, or not at all, today.
The Lake hike is a mile shorter than the Dike Hike.
Lake Sacajawea Trail Hike; 4 miles the way I walk it.
Dike Hike/Pacific Way Trail - 5.2 miles round trip from 48th to 30th - 2.6 miles 1-way.
Mama Duck and baby duckling.
Early morning Hen Session on the Lake mainline; LOL
Early morning Party Crashers.
Party Crashers causing a ruckus.
I have a lot of thinking to do - a new home means a lot of handyman work.
Thinking about the heating situation ...
Wood-wood; or sawdust pellets. I don't know yet.
There are going to be LARGE expenses on the new home upgrades.
The carpet debacle.
I'm hoping and praying for a 'Bidding War' that will boost my sale price.
I'm looking for a new home in 3 Counties ... a lot of footwork may be in the details.

Longview & Castle Rock; are in Cowlitz County.

Cathlamet, Skamokawa, Graysriver & Rosburg; are in Wahkiakum County.

Naselle, Bay Center, Menlo, Lebam, & Pluvius; are in Pacific County.

Pe Ell, Doty, Napavine, Boistfort, Winlock, & Vader; are in Lewis County.

Wahkiakum, Cowlitz, & Pacific Counties: are familiar to me, in regards to daily living.

Lewis County is unfamiliar in regards to daily living.

The Loop Route I drive twice a week ... and I hope to find a new home along the route.

Thinking, and walking along, I happened to catch glimpse of something hanging high, in the tree limbs: what on earth?

It looked like someone had hung a speaker from a limb.

I walked over for a closer look.

It now resembled a large bug catcher box.

What the heck is up in that tree ... it looks like a speaker; but isn't; it’s some sort of bug catcher. What kind of insect is the County trying for? This cardboard thing is HUGE.

Passing by the Lion’s Building, I noticed a garden area in the back … so I walked over to see it.

I was glad to see that some kids are learning to garden: it’s a basic life skill that will successfully enrich their lives, all of their lives.

A Teen Life Skills Garden at the Lion's Center Building.

I also noticed, as I walked along, back to the car … that 20th Avenue was closed to traffic.

The roadway is needing repair work.

It looks like a minefield with all the ratty, pitted blacktop, and ragged potholes.

20th Avenue Overpass Closed.

It reminded me of life – my life of late.

My life needs repair work.

My life has been undermined – and on occasion, sabotaged – by destructive minefields that pitted the landscape and left ragged potholes.

But, I’ve done the best I can to patch the ratty, pitted surface of my widow life … and I’m restructuring, and resurfacing, the potholes: no cheap chip-seal job for my life! No sir!

I’m going to do a top-notch patch job that will ‘go the distance’.

The pictures were taken today: late afternoon.

The paperwork will get underway on Friday 😉

LOST VALLEY ROAD

Today was my Naselle Coffee Hour, day.

On my way to my Thursday Naselle Coffee Hour.
Naselle from Heron Pointe - via WA-4 W; 59 mins.

I had fun; I also met some new people, who were a hoot.

Before I knew it, the hour had flown, and I was on the road again.

I did get a lead on a possible home up for grabs … so, I’m waiting (with a hope and a prayer) to see where that leads.

The house isn’t listed yet.

Leaving Naselle, I decided that instead of driving straight back home, I’d drive the Pe Ell Loop drive; and take a side excursion up a road I’ve been wanting to explore for years 😉

I'm going to explore Lost Valley Road, this afternoon.

I was listening to Bob’s Charlie Daniels CD …

The Charlie Daniels Band – A Decade of Hits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sh7BZf7D5Bw&list=PLOlIvUBxGKIRl0VhdmVn8GNdPchPezuOr

when ‘Still In Saigon’ came on … I was overcome with emotion, and had to pull over and sit for a little bit. That song always brings tears to my eyes, but today swift anger came with the tears. It just brought back memories of the Vietnam War years, where our young men were drafted to fight and die to battle communism and socialism.

It was a bloody mess – the government in Vietnam was patently evil and the things done by those tyrants defies human comprehension.

And our young men returning were violently hassled, spit on, screamed at, and labeled murderers (most notably; ‘baby killers’) by the uneducated, and ‘higher education’ brainwashed, demonrat minions: the same minions who were then and now screaming for the right to murder their own babies.

The hypocrisy was/is disgraceful.

And today the younger uneducated, and ‘higher education’ brainwashed demonrat freaks are calling for communism and socialism to be ushered into America through barak hussain obama’s demented tool, biden and his commie sidekick, cackling hyena harris.

It makes me sad.

It makes me angry.

It makes me sick to my stomach.

I was missing my Kentucky-roots-man.

I am missing America; and hoping She makes a comeback.

So, I had to pull over for a bit and cry it out – that the cost of the loss of lives given to keep communism and socialism at bay; and never introduced into American life – can so easily be trampled into the ground by the deadhead 1960’s throwback losers and their ilk; lost in their self-imposed insanity is an American tragedy flung in our faces by that demon, obama … and his angry partner in crime, michael.

When I opened my eyes, I saw that I had pulled into the parking lot of a thrift store.

I also saw a foyer mirror for sale that I knew I’d be bringing home with me. It was only $5 😉

As soon as my eyes saw it, I wanted it: and I know just the place for it in the house … and it will be traveling with me to my new home, too, when I procure one; hopefully in a year’s time, or sooner 😊

There is always room for a foyer mirror. It’s shabby chic – and I like that. Bob didn’t particularly care for shabby furniture and country décor, but I do: and my new home will be solely my own. I will trick it out in whatever fancy I chose.

New-to-me foyer mirror.

Mirror purchased and stashed carefully in the backend of the Highlander; I was off again.

Turning left at the Raymond circle, I pulled in at Galey’s at the top of the hill.

Galey's from Naselle - via US-101 N; 43 mins.

I decided to top the gas tank there too – that way I wouldn’t have to in Longview … I could just drive straight to my carport and kick my shoes off (there was still a full tank of gas when I parked at home) ðŸ˜‰

I had never gassed up here, so the pump was a little different to operate.

An old-fashioned gas pump.
Lost Valley Road from Galey's - via WA-6 E; 41 mins.

Enjoying the warmth of a sunny drive along the farmlands of Pe Ell-McDonald Road, I turned uphill at the ‘Lost Valley’ road sign – full of exploratory anticipation.

Lost Valley Road Sign, in the leafy roadside shadows.
Heron Pointe from Lost Valley Road - via Boistfort & Wildwood Road; 1 hr. 3 mins.

Bob and I had never taken this turn, so it was a new ‘thing’ 😊

A skinny backcountry road with evidence of log truck activity at some point.

From the Pe Ell-McDonald side, it was a very narrow, and shoulderless road – just thinking of meeting a log truck at this juncture was a little nerve-wracking. I had been seeing log trucks all day long, along the route; logging was in full swing this afternoon.

But God was merciful … and I never met one on this particular road.

(((THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, FATHER!)))

Beginning at the Mile 4 milepost, several houses … tucked in at the end of looooong gravel and dirt driveways spread out along the roadway … began to dot the forested landscape.

Houses after milepost 4.

The closer I got to the tie-in-end of Lost Valley Road, the wider the roadway got: and the easier I breathed thinking about those log trucks 😉

Also, more houses showed, in cleared out areas.

It was a real nice country drive.

Definitely a repeat 😊

A fancy hilltop house; a fancy garage/shop lower down the property – with log trucks parked in the graveled area.
Horses enjoying a warm, quiet, summer day; background horse is a heavier draft horse; the feet and bulky size drew my attention – these are BIG animals, used for BIG farm work loads.
An octagon shaped house; the family dog was very vociferous even from this distance.
The tie-in-end of Lost Valley Road; this is familiar territory, so, I turned left.

Lost Valley Road had just rerouted me to a different Pe-Ell way towards home!

Lost Valley Road route ...
It brought me to the top of Pe Pell, via Boistfort junction - where I normally turn towards home! It was an enjoyable side route.

So, I finished my adventurous drive in my ‘normal way’ when I travel that way.

But … I had been wanting to know where the Lost Valley Road went; and now, I know 😉
