RIP DEAR FRIEND

I was checking my FB Page this evening, when I got a text at 5:33 P.M. from Lori: “Greg is passing. I’m on my way to St. John’s. I hope I make it on time.”

I texted back: “I’ll be praying for you.”

I posted on FB about the situation; and asked for prayer. Most of my FB Friends would know who Greg was.

Then, I thought … he shouldn’t be alone: no one should ever die alone. I was closer to the hospital than his sister was, so I shut the laptop down, kicked my slippers off, and slid my feet into my hiking boots; grabbed my coat and purse – and jumped in the car. I texted Lori on my way: “I’ll meet you there; green coat, green pants.”

All the way to the hospital, flashback memories of Greg played through my thoughts and prayers:

GREG - standing; Lori - sitting, white blouse. 1970's

{{Greg had just graduated High School when I first met him – we didn’t date, but we did “have a moment”. Greg was a good-looking man. Greg was a good-hearted man with a killer smile, an infectious laugh, and a fun-loving attitude. He was a troubled man later in life due to bad life decisions, but he always treated his friends good: I wanted to be there or him – he was always there for me. Greg immediately became a Friend on FB when he learned Bob had passed: he helped me tremendously during those first 2 years of widowhood – we often texted every day, and through most nights: nothing ‘fresh’ … and he remembered Bob – he would have been a Freshman, when Bob was a Senior. I learned things about Bob that I never knew. I was thankful Greg had known Bob, and was that he was my friend in present times.}}

I got to the hospital and parked. I walked through the sliding doors and said I was there to see Greg Wika … a mask was thrust at me and I was pointed toward the elevator that would take me to ICU. I didn’t need directions. I had spent all of the Fall and Winter months of 2018 in the ICU Ward of the local hospital. When the elevator cruised to its stop at Floor 3, and the doors whispered open, I pressed the intercom button and was asked by an attending floor walker who I was there to see – I told her and she went to check; coming back to tell me that “a family member is with him”. That was good news! Lori had made it 😊 I informed the floor walker that I’d be in the waiting room when Lori came out.

I called two intercessor prayer warriors and asked them to pray for Gregthat he would (if he hadn’t yet) make peace with his Maker before his spirit left this Earth.

Then I waited.

The wait was a short one. I had barely settled into my chair when Lori came into the room to notify me that Greg had passed. We hugged. I asked her if she was alright; she said “yes”. We sat down from each other. And I listened for 45 minutes as she talked about her memories of her older brother; I shared my memories of Greg, with her. She remembered Bob – she said, “he was a handsome man, and he had the most beautiful eyelashes”. And I smiled, and said, “Yes, he was handsome, and he did have beautiful eyelashes; they were long and the envy of every girl who didn’t have them – including me.” We laughed thinking about Bob’s eyelashes. The laughter helped take the edge off her grief shakiness. She said, “I’m sorry; you must have something better to do than sit here.” I said, “I’m retired. Greg was a friend – I can stay with you as long as you need someone to be with you.” I stayed until her husband came to get her.

Lori said Greg passed peacefully, and that he’s in Heaven: I’m pretty sure that’s true, because I felt peaceful about his passing, too. Lori also showed me the scar on her chest between her breasts, and said she recently a few mild strokes – which led to open-heart-surgery (6 months ago!): a triple bypass; heart issues are hereditary in the Wika family. Lori is only 2 years older than me.

Greg was 70 years old when he took his last breath: he’d has a series of heart attackshis heart just quit working.

RIP dear friend.

FAR, FAR AWAY LAND

I was up at 5 AM this morning. Thinking. Mentally scrolling through today’s itinerary.

By 6 AM, I was fully awake and sitting in the recliner by the fireplace; drinking coffee and reading a few chapters of my latest Clive Cussler read 😉

Around 7 AM, I pulled my thoughts away from Clive’s far, far away land narrative; and pulled my ‘temple repair kit’ out of the vanity drawer … and started getting my face in place for the day ahead 😊

Temple Repair Kit. LOL
Glittery 'Gentle' for brow line & glittery 'Black' & 'Navy' for 'liners' - top & bottom.
Black accent eye color; 'Soft Brown' Eyebrow Gel, Glam Brown Mascara, & 'Coral Ember' Creme Blush.
1 coat of glittery Nail Polish; and 'Luminous Coral' Lipstick & 'Coral Crave' Lipgloss.

Ready to roll ...

The purpose of Mondays and Tuesdays is to help other’s build a beautiful life – inside, as well as outside.

A beautiful life starts with a love foundation.

Love comes from accepting yourself (warts, and all), and working towards a better life that will hold a beautiful future: should you be granted a tomorrow.

Love comes from building community: a communal network of people you can count on to have your back when the world is stabbing you in the back.

Love comes from making connections: a kinship. Unity. Identity. A cooperative spirit … pulling in double harness, so to speak.

Love comes from love (what you give, is what you get).

Love is what matters. Leave a trail of love in your wake 😊

After Monday’s meeting which went well, I was invited to lunch with friends. I was touched by the kind thoughtfulness that went into the preparation of the meal. Before we sat down to eat, I was laughingly (in friendliness) told, “I bought a tub of margarine just for you. There has never been margarine in my refrigerator before, but there is now.” I am allergic to dairy products – this small act of kindness meant a lot to me. This family has officially adopted me as a sister. I am blessed.

Even so, this is another Thanksgiving Invite I declined. Maybe next year ... but not this year.

Kindness is love in action.
Quality Friends are the best friends to have.

When I got home, I checked my FB Comments, and got a warm glow in my heart when I read a comment to one of my comments made a day ago. I always like it when people have good things to tell me about Bob 😊

I like knowing that people remember my husband in a good way.

FB Post I replied to ...
Replies
Bob; Mar. '67 - house he spent his teens in, & the same house I came to as a Bride … and lived in with him, for 19 years before we sold it, and moved; & Bob's Year Book Football Pic - Number 27; 1967. The jersey was so thread-bare, I finally trashed it, in Spring, 2019.

I do not know the people that knew Bob in High School – in that far, far away land of 1967. I saw Bob when he walked past me on the school grounds … but I did not know Bob until seven years into the future of 1974; after he had graduated.

My 2019 ‘I Only Want To Be With You’ Post: https://jeastofeden.blogspot.com/2019/08/i-only-want-to-be-with-you.html

I like hearing good things about my husband – even if they are small tidbits, given here and there.

Now, I’m going to eat some of the BBQ Chicken that was sent home with me earlier today, after a homestyle lunch that included more recent far, far away land stories being shared … then after washing the dishes, I am going to faithfully work the calories off 😉

APPRECIATION SHABBAT: From Meh to Amazing

Meh = uninspiring; unexceptional.

Amazing = wonderful, cool; great.

Gratitude = appreciation, gratefulness, thankfulness; positive reception.

I mentioned in an earlier post this week, that “happiness is a choice”: an actual decision (aka, a series of small choices made every day) towards fulfillment of your goal to live a happy life.

What we end up as, is a confirmation of every choice we have ever made – and we are constantly one choice away from change: we just have to decide to take that step forward towards the change we want.

I woke up this morning thinking that come Spring 2023, I want to be back to exercising every day. I want to have a toned body again (I am smart enough to understand that I’ll never look 20 – or even 30 – again; but I can be a toner 66 😉). I want a healthier skin color; I as telling Chrystal the other day, “I haven’t been outside much this year, and I’m starting to look {ghostly} – my skin is so pale”: and it’s true! Building “community” (network of friends across three counties) has not left me much time to be outside, soaking up the sunrays and strengthening my muscles. I need to get back to that in 2023.

So, that is my goal looking towards the New Year, should Elohim grant me another 12 months of Life.

As well as honing spiritual fortitude, a strong Friends community, and a healthy body structure … it is also necessary to absorb gratitude into our daily life.

Gratitude causes a shift in perspective: instead of languishing in a state of “meh”, you shake off the gray funk and reroute your thoughts to take steps in active decisions that will focus on the changes you want to see manifest in your life.

Shifting your awareness isn’t that hard, once you set your mind to do it.

So, while drinking my first cup of coffee this morning, I heard birds chirping at the birdfeeder – and glancing towards the front livingroom window I noticed the bright yellow leaves of the ornamental maple in the front of my home … and all the bright colors of my immediate surroundings inside my home: my thoughts were filled with appreciation. I like color in my small corner of the world 😊

Walking from the livingroom to the kitchen to rinse the coffee cup before refilling it, my peripheral vision caught sight of the rolled exercise mat laying against the bag holding my latest knitting project in progress; I felt my lazy bone being prodded to unroll it and get busy using it. I was home – now was a good time to kickstart afore mentioned {goal}. So, that’s what I did. I skipped the second cup of coffee which would have sidelined the prod … I set the coffee cup on the end table, unrolled the mat and did some quick sets of glute exercises. It felt good!

Then, feeling inspired to “go the extra mile” – literally as well as figuratively – I gave Chrystal a jingle and asked if she’d like to go for a walk with me: she would … so, we did 😊

Right off the bat, we saw a white egret; that was a good sign. White Egrets are known to represent blessing and prosperity (conformation of Chrystal’s prayer request). White Egrets are also symbolic of gratitude and contentment (thank You, Yeshua, for this Shabbat confirmation).

I also got a text from another friend, reminding me that there are angels around me. I don’t need remindingbut it was a friendly reminder from a loving friend, that I am not alone even when it appears so, to myself at times – or to strangers who see me out and about solo lobo. I texted him back that I appreciate his agape love, and I appreciate his brotherly friendship: Elohim is faithful to keep Christian companions in my new life, that encourages me always with positive vibes.

And when I parked at home, the evergreen tree across the way seemed to be signaling a “Victory!” sign 😉

Matthew Ward – ‘Trust in You’ song: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDhvVCTdGmk)

There was so much to be grateful for this Shabbat: a hot cup of coffee; bright color to boost the day’s mood; a body still agile enough to ‘work’, so it continues to work for me; friendship that gives – and generates – a smile; conversation that keeps the ‘lonelies’ at bay; nature that awes and soothes the spirit; a cozy home: my day was oozing with thankfulness.

L’chiam! To Life! Happy Shabbat ðŸ˜Š

With just a prod from my peripheral vision, my “ordinary” day of {just me, today; nowhere to go, no one to see} suddenly went from meh to great 😊

“GOALS ~2023 Kickstart” Post, earlier today: https://jeastofeden.blogspot.com/2022/11/goals-2023-kickstart.html

GOALS ~2023 Kickstart

Thoughts became a kickstart reality today 😊

I’ve been pretty laidback this year (establishing a friendship network that kept me indoors most of 2022); but I started making inroads into 2023 Goals, this morning 😉

And, I now have a walking partner!

Thank You, Elohim …

Morning gatitude for the color in my immediate surroundings.
The Exercise Mat was 'guilting' me ...
So, I did 1 set of 20 ct. EAGlutes Exercises.
The mat colors got my mind in a mood to walk the Dike Hike; I called a friend to join me.
Pacific Way Trail from 38th Ave. - 48th Ave from church parking lot; 2 miles 'rnd trip.
We saw a White Egret at the start of our walk ...
These ditch diggers are becoming a frequent sight along the hike route.
I spotted a 'Victory!' sign while parking the Highlander, at home.
And Clive greeted me with an entertaining tale, as I gratefully sank into the recliner to enter my Shabbat Rest ðŸ˜Š

My mood was thankful, reflective (sharing what “they want to know”), happy, and playful.

‘They Want To Know’ Post: https://jeastofeden.blogspot.com/2022/11/they-want-to-know.html

Holland’s bean soup was warmly welcome by one and all … and I teased him about the fat going straight to my thighs 😉 But I didn’t pass up the big container full, he sent home with me: it’s delish 😊

Holland's Bean Soup ... very rich & fatty. I'm blaming my chunky thighs on Holland's cooking!
Holland's Bean Soup - GOOD; I microwaved another bowl full, after getting home. LOL

Elohim has richly blessed me with great friends who warm my spirit (and my stomach, too 😉).
