THE MSC SHAY SHIP

This morning I was driving the stretch of Ocean Beach Highway between Oak Point and County Line, when I saw the biggest ship ever – so, I stopped for a better look to see if I could spot the name and research it, later.

The MSC Shay, is the largest ship to navigate the Columbia River to date.

It was the MSC Shay.

MSC Shay; 9:47 AM - Columbia River.

That thing was HUGE.

What an eye-opener!

The ship was built in 2009, flies the Panama flag, weighs in at 100,000 tons, and is 1,114 feet in length. I’ve never seen anything this size cruise up the Columbia River before. All I could think as it passed by, was, ‘Bob would have enjoyed watching this thing move upriver’.

And maybe Bob did watch it, if he rode a cloud overhead 😉

The MSC Shay is a container ship.

When I was checking my FB Page, I noticed someone had posted that this ship is headed for Portland – and a picture was posted of it passing under the Longview-Rainier Bridge.

The MSC Shay container ship bound for Portland, is shown here this morning going under the Longview-Rainier Bridge.

I have a dentist appointment Monday – and it’s gonna hurt, so I plan on being lazy all weekend so I am relaxed when the dental torture begins.

FRIENDS FOR LIFE ~Traveling Thursdays

Today is my Thursday Coffee Hour in Naselle 😊

I was up very early (6 AM); and extra hour added because of all the road work going on, to make sure I would arrive at 10 AM. I was up, hair washed, face on, flavored coffee in travel mug … and there was even time to spare to fill up the gas tank (just in case I decided to take the long way home later 😉). I was driving down Ocean Beach Highway 15 full minutes before 9 AM. I was stoked; I knew I’d arrive at my destination point early 😊

Walking out the door ...
The day started off with good vibes.
The raging leftists are seriously out of control.

I was making good time, so I made a quick pit stop at the marina in Cathlamet. The totem pole outside the restrooms was brightly painted – the animals are pretty basically the same among the regional PNW totems; and I will often stop and look at them. Some Christians do not. But being around one does not bother me.

Totems are interesting artwork, but their spirits don't frighten me –my God is the Supreme Living God, not a figment of the imagination portrayed in wood.

I got through Cathlamet, Skamokawa, over KM Mountain, and through Graysriver … and was brought up short by road work

From Hill Top Road, to Rosburg Store.

There went my extra time.

I wasn’t terribly late, but I was late. Again. Because of road work; again.

I look forward to Thursdays in Naselle; I like chatting with everyone, and the discussions are always lively. It’s fun to get a different perspective on topics. And it’s fun to share old memoriesand make new memories, too.

R is a new face … and new energy: she is a little dynamo with quick wit and sarcastic charm. I knew B from my teen years; and BZ became a quick, solid friend as the circle expanded and the years anchored our spirits in unity. I am grateful Elohim brought us all together.

R's fingernails - the glitter caught my eye.
Front to Back; B – her husband is a logger; R – widowed, like me, and new to the area; BZ – her husband is a farmer, & Me – foot-loose and fancy free, just hanging with my friends.

While we were chit-chatting, drinking our coffee’s, and discussing the topics of the day … David called and asked what I was doing – I said I was hanging with the girls. He said he was headed to his beach property, and would I like to join him: I said, “okay – if you get here before the hour is up, just drop by, and I’ll follow you in my car”. He’s been talking about his place at the beach for a while, and I’ve had a standing open invitation to drop by, check it out, and visit. Today, I went 😊 David and I have known each other for at least 56 years, and he’s been a good friend to me. He knew Bob even longer than he’s known me.

I followed David to his beach property, and drove a cross-over road I’ve never been on before (not even with Bob, and Bob grew up at the beach); there was no reason to drive that road before this afternoon’s jaunt.

I'm glad I topped the gas tank off before leaving Longview. Today's diversion was Longbeach.
David has a nice piece of beach property. I had expected a sandy beach, and was pleasantly surprised to find a grassy field.

I stayed for about 2 hours; enjoying the company, enjoying the sun (I got burnt some more), enjoying the tranquility of the secluded place, and enjoying the conversations about places we both new and had visited (at different times during our lives); I enjoyed remembering/discussing people we’d both grown up with-palled around with-miss when the Grim Reaper showed up with his calling card. We talked about the cougar roaming Longview, and he showed me the picture he took of a black bear on the property next to his (!). We talked about our families, the pets we’d shared our lives with, politics, ect. It was a good 2 hours of sharing, caring, laughter, and friendship.

Then it was time to hit the road for home. I have a standing appointment on Spruce Creek – Thursday evening Jam Session 😉

The day’s driving was very carefree today: traffic was sparce, and what traffic there was flowed smoothly.

Chinook County Park; low tide.
Driving through Chinook - wave break boulders, & Astoria-Meglar Bridge in the background.

When I got to Skamokawa, I stopped at the Duck Inn to grab a sandwich for Supper, and R was there. So was B; I was snatched as soon as I placed my order, and rushed into one of the back deck cabanas – where I was introduced to a few more people (7 more; they had all drove up from Graysriver for their ‘Thursday Night Get-Together’ for Supper and schmoozing). I ate my sandwich with them, joined in the schmoozing, and was invited to join them every Thursday – I said I’d think about it. It was fun; and it will be fun again because they are all fun people to be around: I may join them every other Thursday, depending on the yo-yoing gas prices.

R invited me to visit with her and B every Friday afternoon, at her house too. That would be enjoyable; but again, every other Friday would be best, I think. If I lived in Graysriver, every Friday would work – but with gas prices being what they are, I can only do what I can do with what I have to work with.

Driving over Beaver Creek Road on my way to Spruce Creek, it looked like it was an ‘open range’ area; a black steer was on the edge of the road/Herford cows laying in the field … and the fence-line was gone for at least a mile: no barb wire to be seen anywhere along that stretch of road. So, I drove very carefully. Open range animals have right of way – and if you hit one, you buy it. When I reached my destination on Spruce Creek, I asked if the Beaver Creek area was now open range, and got startled looks; so, I explained what I had seen and LR jumped on the phone to get his grandson out looking at the fence-line, saying it’s possible an elk herd had taken the wire out. To which I replied: “It would have had to have been a very large herd because the wire was gone for quite a distance – from the corner house just past your house, to Charlene and Allen’s house. Suddenly coming up on cattle in the middle of the road could be dangerous for night drivers.”

The jam session picked up speed, and watching everyone I thought what a blessing they were to me and how fortunate I am to have them in my life.

I am truly blessed with a rich abundance of friends.

MALL CRAWL WAS A BUST

I woke up planning to do the Pacific Way Dike Hike – that is what I dressed for.

My calendar is pretty full-up with weekly friend meet-ups: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday (all day long), & Sunday Fellowship from one end of the County to the other 😉 Friday and Saturday are set aside for personal Shabbat relaxation and refueling. Wednesday is the only {free} day I have, so I planned to get outside and walk a bit.

As I was driving, I was debating whether to walk the Lake … or walk the Dike; two shakes of a lamb’s tail from home, the decision was made for me to reroute and do the Mall Crawl. I hadn’t done that in a while, and I really wanted to walk a few kinks out – so, to Kelso, I drove.

Rain drove me to the Kelso Mall.
Three River Mall from Heron Pointe; 14 min (6.7 mi) via WA-4 E
If the Dentist does not bleed me dry by August, I amy go to the Lexington Garage sales.
Half of the Mall businesses are closed.
The Lighthouse used to be a Christian Store - now it caters to witchcraft & new age garbage.
The new Mall Owner has run the Mall into the ground; it's a dead investment.
Christian businesses & Charity networks were told they could no longer set up at the Mall; no Christmas Angel Gifts Tree.
The Kelso Mall is, for all intents and purposes, is defunct as Oregon's Llyod center Mall. D.E.A.D.

The mall crawl was pretty boring (Bob no longer walking with me, and half the stores shut down). I think I only saw maybe a dozen other people … but, I got some ‘beat feet’ time in. Walking past the Library and Kiddie Rides sections, I remembered being there with my husband and grandson. And I didn’t cry. My heart is healing.

Sitting in the Highlander, looking across the Mall’s parking lot, I decided to walk through Safeway – I hadn’t done that either. In a while, and it’s a superstore, so I could get some ‘beat feet’ time in there, too: every little bit adds up 😊

Walking through the store, I remembered times Bob and I shopped there. And I didn’t tear up – thank You, Yeshua.

Chicken prices are shocking! Chicken used to be the “cheap Supper meat”, now it’s out of reach for most of society

When I saw the octopus, I remembered how Bob like to eat it every time we ate at the Korean Restaurant (before it closed out) on Washington Way. That thought made me smile.

Seeing the crawdads brought to mind the time our friend Dave, who was staying with us for awhile, got excited when he saw crawdads in the creek back of our house in Cathlamet … and he took Stacey with him to catch enough for Supper (he cooked them ‘the way we do in Florida’). That is a good memory.

We all liked to chew on crawdad's ... but we never saw any this size!

My walk, through Safeway, was not boring 😊 And I may go back payday.

Leaving Kelso behind and crossing the bridge back into Longview, I noticed the rain had stopped: I decided to chance the planned Dike Hike before I headed home.

I did get my Dike Hike, after all.
Pacific Way Trail from 38th Ave - 48th Ave from church parking lot; 1.18 mi. one way.
It's so peaceful - and I only saw about 6 people; everyone is scared of the cougar sightings.
Cougars are rarely seen in the daytime - but all animals leave behind some sign of presence.
Pacific Way Trail from Cedar Place, Longview-WA; 5 min (2.0 mi) via Cascade Way and Pacific Way
Cougar sighting in the upper hills of Longview, July 3rd; the third cougar sighting in a week’s span of time, occurred on Cedar Place in Longview – caught on camera.
Cougar Facts:
People who track animals with dogs are losers that don’t know how to hunt; it's sheer cruelty.

Back home, I ate Supper and worked on another preemie vest and hat set while watching a Charles Bronson movie.

Glancing out the window, I noticed that the sky looked kinda {artsy} tonight.

The evening sky appeared 'smudged' - kinda like an impressionist painting. MPO

And later on … the moon highlighted sky had a song weaving in and out of my thoughts: the tune just seemed to {fit} 😉

The half moon, swaddled in smokey clouds brought a 1970's song to mind.
Black Sabbath – ‘Planet Caravan’ song:

And with that, I am off to bed; tomorrow is my “busy all-day” Day with friends from one end of the County to the other 😊

LIFE IN THE MOMENT

I was meeting with friends today, so I was up bright and early and out the door before 10 AM 😉

Walking out the door ...

I grabbed a flavored coffee before leaving town – and couldn’t believe what I was hearing from the talking heads on the radio. I wasn’t really all that surprised given that the topic being talked about took place across the river in looney bin town; Portland, Oregon is not known for the wisdom of its governing officials … or for coherent thinking abilities of the populace. It is however known for the dizzying cocktail blend of crazy that always results from power-hungry/grabbing politicians at the local and DC level; and the drug addicted wanna-be hippie culture fuels the blm/antifa race-induced flames, still raging out-of-control in downtown Portland.

One of my friends (making up a part of our friendship circle) that I was meeting with this morning, lives near the airport; I was thinking of him and praying for safe travel.

Portland’s recent lunatic resident, danielle droppers (Manager of Oregon Health Authority/Office of Equity & Inclusion) canceled a scheduled meeting, and dissed those asking her why.

More Portland craziness -
'Urgency’ Is A White Supremacy Value'

RHEC is the Regional Health Equity Coalitions & CAC is the Community Amenity Contributions … it appears to any sane and logical thinking person, that the deadhead city’s {official Leftist talking head}, danielle droppers, is shooting Portland’s outreach programs – designed to aid those in need, as in ‘life in the moment’ – in their left feet.

Venus Hum – ‘Emergency’ song: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pBUT_mPBwU)

Leaving the Coffee Shack, I glanced across the highway and saw haze hanging heavy in Heron Pointe. It’s hard to tell on days like today if the haze is the result of high humidity (we’ve been having days with 70% to 90% humidity), or heavy pollution output from the Mills, or if it’s wildfire smoke drifting across the river: it’s probably a combination of all 3+.

A very hazy day, this morning ... looking down Heritage Boulevard.

I planned on driving over Harmony Drive & Germany Creek Road, on my way to the gathering; so, I drove out Coal Creek Road. The haze was just as thick.

Coal Creek; the haze surrounds the area.

Swallows and dragonflies darting everywhere out Coal Creek Road – I love this time of year: not so much the heat … but I like enjoying life in the moment with the bird and dragonfly activity 😊

The gathering was great! So much love and laughter, from 11 AM to 2 PM.

When I got back home, I received a text telling me I would no longer be able to help with the Food Distribution in Lexington – I’m just surprised it took this long for me to be cut.

The Kiss-Off finally arrived ... interpretation reads, 'the linquists are extremely upset, and you have been banned'.

I’m okay with the cut, and they can all sit around and suck on lemons. I don’t feel the least bit {disciplined} – I have God and joy in my life … they have carl and ruth linquist: I believe I have the better deal Life has to offer 😉

I just deleted the few contacts I had (some people I will miss; most I will not), and laughingly got on my way to enjoying life in the moment. I have someplace else to spend my time on Tuesdays, with a better level of people.

I’m still working my way through the stash of light weight Baby Yarns Bob found for me, years ago. I had been hoarding it for hoped-for great-grandchildren, but since that is a definite “no-go”, I’ve started using it for other baby themed projects to donate to the Caring Pregnancy Center, where expected/unexpected life unfolds in the moment.

Lately I have been making crocheted vests and beanie sets for itty-bitty premature babies. The doll I bought at a community garage sale last summer, is the perfect length for a 2- to 3-pound preemie baby even though it is a lot plumper than a human baby of that length would be. I remember when I saw my premature niece who was born very early … she was barely longer than a Barbie Doll, and pretty skinny with a tennis ball sized head; I remember being concerned for my brother and his wife if the baby didn’t make it – she looked so fragile! But, Jamie Lee did thrive and survive, and she is no longer skinny.

These little light-weight vests are made to easily slip on and off the delicate baby body, and is open-sided to allow for the various medical tubing needed to sustain the baby’s life until it is strong enough to survive on its own strength and will-power to live. The tiny beanies keep the baby’s head warm (body heat escapes out of the head and feet). I’m going to work up baby booties for each set too as soon as I design a pair of booties that can be slipped on the feet easily without being kicked off again just as easily.

Working my way through the Baby Yarn stash Bob found for me at an Estate Sale, 7 years ago; these yarns can't be bought anymore.
2- to 3-pound Preemie Vest & Beanie; crochet - mint green.
