THE MSC SHAY SHIP

This morning I was driving the stretch of Ocean Beach Highway between Oak Point and County Line, when I saw the biggest ship ever – so, I stopped for a better look to see if I could spot the name and research it, later.

The MSC Shay, is the largest ship to navigate the Columbia River to date.

It was the MSC Shay.

MSC Shay; 9:47 AM - Columbia River.

That thing was HUGE.

What an eye-opener!

The ship was built in 2009, flies the Panama flag, weighs in at 100,000 tons, and is 1,114 feet in length. I’ve never seen anything this size cruise up the Columbia River before. All I could think as it passed by, was, ‘Bob would have enjoyed watching this thing move upriver’.

And maybe Bob did watch it, if he rode a cloud overhead 😉

The MSC Shay is a container ship.

When I was checking my FB Page, I noticed someone had posted that this ship is headed for Portland – and a picture was posted of it passing under the Longview-Rainier Bridge.

The MSC Shay container ship bound for Portland, is shown here this morning going under the Longview-Rainier Bridge.

I have a dentist appointment Monday – and it’s gonna hurt, so I plan on being lazy all weekend so I am relaxed when the dental torture begins.
