NORMAL RESET

I got a notification in the mail a few days ago, informing me that activities in Castle Rock have opened back up – so I drove to exercise class this morning 😊

I drove via Westside Highway because I got a late start … and Westside Highway was the quickest route.

Westside Highway from Longview - 12 minutes.
Sandy Bend from Westside Highway - 8 minutes.
Castle Rock from Sandy Bend - 7 minutes.

Exercise Class was fun.

It was good to see people again: full face.

It was good to see people I haven’t seen in a year.

The morning almost felt normal, again … except for the fact that the building echoed due to the fact that most people are still not comfortable being in large groups of unmasked people: obviously they do not believe “the science”, having been victims of political fearmongering for a solid year (all year, every hour of every day – for 365 days straight).

‘Normal’ may have been killed with the 2020 obamanite-biden-pelosi coup; in which, covid was used as a battering ram to get biden illegally – and shamefully – seated, and harris installed with a meaningless title.

Anyway …

Those of us who did gather, enjoyed the class; and enjoyed spending time together, chatting without having to shout through layers of useless cloth that smothers the wearer, and distorts their speaking.

Exercise class was opened up.

My lungs were fine; the activity was brisk and my breath was short at times, but I did not need to use my inhaler: thank You, Yeshua!

Leaving Castle Rock, I thought I’d drop my weights off at home … then drive into downtown Longview to see if I could get into the Country Folks Deli now, without mask mandate hassle.

Driving into town, while twiddling my thumbs – sitting at a red light, I saw a truck ahead of me with a strange business name; the more I looked at it, the more it tickled my funny bone until I burst out laughing. The business name itself was strange, but wondering (with tongue in cheek) if some of Ireland’s fanciful {Little People} had been drafted into working off their mischievousness – kind of went with the fanciful name 😉

After I got downtown and parked, I walked into Country Folks Deli and seated myself: there was no banshee screaming about being unmasked.

YES!

I was in.

I entered through the back door, and ate in the back-end section of the deli.
I usually eat in the front-end; Bob and I ate in there for decades.
There are 'homey' touches at every booth ... I got the barn booth, this afternoon.

The atmosphere there, almost felt normal too – except that masks were still in evidence on some faces.

Mask wearing for extended lengths of time is not normal.

Feeling the necessity of wearing a suffocating mask, when it is no longer necessary to do so, is not normal.

Behaving in a paranoid manner because political browbeating has eroded rational thinking and behavior, is not normal.

I’m not entirely convinced ‘normal’ will ever again have a normal outcome.

But it was nice to be able to sit inside again, and engage in normal behavior, while in an abnormal environment.

I had lunch at the Country Folks Deli.
I ordered The Cowboy burger; none of it came home with me. I was hungry ;-)
My paperback came with me, to keep me company.
There are 44 chapters ... I'll be choosing a new novel tonight.
YUMMY!

Just before I finished the last of my fries, a song came on that immediately had my eyes tearing up …

Feel Like Making Love: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEuKkcX1uKA)

I pushed the rest of the fries aside, and I couldn’t grab my stuff and get out of the booth to pay my tab fast enough; the whole time, praying I would not break down in front of everyone before I could get to the privacy of the Highlander and cry it out there.

Images of us, came fast and furious to the forefront of my thoughts. Us – young and falling head-over-heels in love. Us raising a family, and grinning over the heads of the kids (and later, grandkids) when the song came on; on the radio while we were driving. Us, eating out, and Bob grinning and wiggling his eyebrows at me when the song played in the background.

The roomy deli suddenly got a lot more confining as the memories grew.

Finally, the tab was paid and I could escape outside – where it didn’t matter if tears fell, before I reached the car.

My {normal} hour had dissolved in a heartbeat.

I have been doing so well in this widow life.

I have been feeling (and hoping) I was past the watershed period in this new life.

I do know that emotionally I am in a better place than I was 10 months ago.

I’ve been walking this solo lobo life for 28 months & 3 days: my heart has scabbed over, but obviously the healing scar is still tender.

Listening to that song play in the background before I could pay and take flight, brought back the fact, that for me – personally and for wholly different reasons than covid madness, life will never be ‘normal’ again. Bob’s absent physical presence, will always be the missing puzzle piece in my personal life’s jigsaw puzzle.

I felt stupid, sitting in the car and crying.

Because of a song playing in the background of a restaurant.

I’ve been doing so well.

I am actively engaged in building a new life.

It’s a good life – even with the missing puzzle piece.

I really need to hurdle these emotional handicaps and grab life by the tail – a ‘normal’ reset.

I dried my face and drove home.

As I parked the Highlander in the carport, I noticed that my Irises are blooming 😊

I decided to finish planting the rest of the garden boxes before the forecasted rain arrives – gardening is a normal activity, for me.

My variegated Irises are 20 years old. I bought them when we bought our 1st home in Longview - they've been moved to 2 other homes.
Planting the pre-sprouted bush beans.
Planting the pre-sprouted Patio Snacker Cukes.
Cucumber cage.
Acorn and Butternut squash planted.
Spaghetti squash & Zucchini squash; wing flapping patriotic bird attached to fencing stake with baling wire.
Pre-sprouted Hopi Corn seedlings planted & staked against the river winds - this is a blue corn.
Hoping to salvage a broken tomato plant - the river wind was strong today.
3 kinds of potatoes planted in color-code baskets; Red Pontiac (Red Basket), Russet Bakers (Blue Basket), & Yukon Gold (Kelly-Green Basket); I know … I’m a weirdo ðŸ˜‰
I hope this frightful looking creature does not pay my garden a visit.
Time to call it a day - looks like the forecast rain is arriving.

That task accomplished, I worked on some house slippers I’m kitting up for the Rosburg Hall Fall Bazaar – they still need to be shaped to a foot form, and tagged.

This is normal activity in normal days past … current days, and the foreseeable future: in this way, my life is still normal 😉

Knitted Slippers for Rosburg Hall Fall Bazaar. Sizes 6-6-1/2-8- & 10 on the needles.

And I’ll spend the remainder of the evening, watching the sunset while listening to the sporadic rain; and finishing up the novel I had with me this morning.

Tonight’s sunset.

Reading books is normal for me. There was a time I always had a book in my hand – no matter what I was doing: waking up/going to bed/cooking meals/doing laundry/taking a bath/riding as passenger into town … if I didn’t have a dime-store paperback in my hand, I was reading the kids a story from a child’s storybook.

This afternoon was the second time I have carried a book with me when I left the house: it is normal behavior.

Rain falling from the sky is normal Washington weather.

Aside from that one episode in the County Folks Deli, I’ve had a pretty normal day in a continuing abnormal time.

MARRIAGE/HEAVEN; EDEN VALLEY & A PEACOCK

I went to fellowship today.

I really enjoy this fellowship.

And I enjoy the drive to get there.

A young couple are preparing their wedding, so the message today was on marriage: traditional marriage – man and woman, which is the only marriage Elohim acknowledges – and the only marriage Yeshua designed specifically for mankind (Genesis 1 & 2).

Wicked barak hussain obama opened pandora’s box, and every sexual perversion imaginable, is being peddled, preached, and practiced by the obamanites and state {churches}. Obsession with self is killing people, society, and our great Nation.

In the Garden of Eden, Yeshua designed marriage for the specific purpose of companionship between man and woman (Genesis 2:20-25). Children came later.

Widowhood was also touched on; as well as celibacy for those strong enough to withstand sexual temptations … otherwise, marriage is Yeshua’s plan for the human’s He created.

Yeshua taught on marriage and single life (Matthew 19:3-12). Yeshua always put total devotion to Elohei first, and foremost; but, as Creator, He understood more than anyone the importance of marriage. As Savior and Righteous Judge, He also understood the impact of celibacy in a decaying world.

Saul (Paul) taught along the lines of Yeshua, as state above (1 Corinthians 7:2-8 & 7:25-40).

Speaking for myself (as a Christian widow), I’m not interested in replacing Bob in my life, or my bed – and I believe I have the celibacy thing under control: I’ve not been tempted by anyone, and Bob is still my fella. Bob loved me so well for 44 years, that he pretty much spoiled me for anyone else. I’m just not interested in ‘testing the waters’. I have asked Elohim for a close companion (a friend to enjoy life with – walks, talks, drives) … I miss sharing daily life with someone; but I am not feeling a tug towards another earthy husband: not even a ‘friendly friend’.

I’ve given this a lot of thought over the past 10 months.

If Elohei prompts me to seek companionship in another marriage; I won’t argue the point – I never argue with Elohim; I may balk, and I may drag my feet … but I never argue. I’m not actively advertising, either. If, and that is a very big “if” things go that way, it will have to be a ‘God thing’ – divinely orchestrated; and will have to ‘rock my world’ just like Bob’s sudden presence in my life did in 1974 – and every second of every day for the 44 years he shared his life and love with me.

For the time being, I’m content with my life the way it is, sans a close companion in it.

After fellowship, instead of doing a loop daytrip back home ... I retraced my morning route and nipped in at the Rosburg Hall for a tasty Chicken Supper: the price was right, and it included desert 😉 I definitely got my $$'s worth - and then some 😊

After eating and schmoozing with everyone (people came from surrounding counties and I knew several couples), I took a short drive to Eden Valley.

Marriage; Rosburg Hall Chicken Supper; Eden Valley.
'Forever marriage' ends when a spouse dies. Marriage is an earthbound thing. (Matthew 22:30)
Bob is waiting for me, I believe that - but not as a husband.
I go out to Eden Valley Cemetery because it comforts me.

Leaving Eden Valley, I turned onto Barr Road (a short country drive which bypasses the main highway) and then turned onto the Covered Bridge road; because I like driving through the covered bridge on my way back to the main highway 😉 While on the backside of the Covered Bridge road, I came across a strutting peacock: it wasn't there when I went through the same patch of road 2 weeks ago.

Peacock on the Covered bridge backroad.

You will not see a strutting peacock along the main roadways - or along freeways; that is why I prefer backroads ... there is much, much more to see on backroads 😊

SPRING AT THE LAKE

I had breakfast with a friend this morning; and after our 3-hour chat, I decided to walk around the Lake. I found a spot to nip into, in the small parking turnout on Kessler, and started my hike at the Rhododendron Garden.

Rhododendron Garden at Lake Sacajawea.

I like lots of color in my life – and I got that in spades, this afternoon 😊

2-tone coral bell-shaped blossoms, with a brushed yellow interior w-brown spots.

Exiting the colorful mini-trail, I dodged geese that ambled the main hiking trail, in slo-mo mode, for a good 10 minutes.

And noticed parents with children going in and out of the restrooms: it’s about time the city opened those necessity rooms up.

Geese along the hiking path.
It's about time! These bathrooms have been closed for an entire year.

As I walked, I thought about all the political BS going on: it seems that the demonrats are very deliberately sucking the fun right out of life in any (and every) way they can.

It happens every time the demonrats seize power and run with it.

I truly believe the demonrat party exists to make life on Earth as cheerless as possible.

Gas is high, so I have to be more selective of where I go. Today it was local.
My wings haven't been totally clipped; but they've been weighed down with political BS.
This political BS happens every time there is a demonrat in the White House - it's their toxic M.O.

And, I also got to thinking about my recent citified driving experience.

I said I’d never drive that route again … but … there are going to be times during my adventuring forays that I may encounter citified areas: I have got to get comfortable in that type of situation.

So, I may drive that route a few more times again, just to push past that uncomfortable hurdle.

I have to bite the bullet and get used to citified driving.

I also received an invite to an upcoming BD-Reunion shindig; another important testing of my comfort zone … I like Bob’s Uncle Cliff, and he likes me too – but it will be difficult dealing with some other relative hostility.

But: I was invited: I have a right to be there.

I'm going.

I will go to represent Bob; and Bob’s love for me.

And I will enjoy the day.

Tranquility surrounded me; on every level, today.

In my thoughts.

In my heart.

In my forward vision (present & future).

I passed a beautiful large shrub.

White Lacecap Hydrangea.

A guy was mowing the grass and kicking up a dust cloud on the upper trail … so, I veered off to the lower trail.

I took the lower path ... and I'm glad I did!
Yellow Flag Irises were in bloom everywhere around the lake.
The red hued hedge bushes contrast beautifully with the Yellow Flag's. And I caught sight of Gus, the lake's resident Great Blue Heron, too.
He appeared to be preening.
But the nipping and scratching seemed to intensifying - like a dog with fleas.
Then, he flew towards me, and I thought he'd cross the hiking trail. But he didn't.
Imagine my surprise to see him set down so close! It was pretty exciting ðŸ˜‰
As I got closer, I saw a pretty large raw spot on his back. Was he injured - or does he have a skin disease?
I've never heard a Heron before; this afternoon, I did.

Nearing the upper end of the Lake, I was surprised again to see a small heron – its beautiful iridescent plumage sparking in the sunlight is what caught my attention.

I also saw a baby gosling; the gander stood guard, while the goose moved to put herself between me and the baby goose, who was still a little unstable on its feet. It was a sweet wildlife family moment.

I saw a turtle basking in the warm Spring sunshine.

I saw a beautiful variegated Columbine flower – obviously a hybrid.

And I saw a gorgeous hued rhododendron when I passed the Japanese Garden … which is still closed to the public.

Iridescent Rock Pigeons.
A Mallard and his hen.
Wren haven ... under the Louisiana St. overpass.
The white waterlilies are starting to bloom.
A little Green Heron.
Green Heron in flight.
Variegated Columbine.
Footbridge to the Japanese Garden.
A goose family; parents were very protective.
A turtle sunning itself in the 78-degree sunrays.
Yellow waterlilies are blooming.
Entrance door to the Japanese Garden; still closed ...
Blush pink rhododendron with a flame highlight on upper petal.

Then I was back where I had parked my car – and ready to come home.

It was an altogether enjoyable day 😊

MY GRANDMA BROCKWAY

We never went hungry at grandma's house.

She had a garden every Spring well into the Fall season. Aunt Edna had chickens (before moving to WA in 1966, I lived on a familial homestead that had been in the family for generations - Aunts and Uncles on their own parcel of land; my father built our house a few feet from grandma's because they were getting up there in years).

Grandma could shoot long shots and skin a deer in under an hour - have it hanging and choice bits cooking for Supper ... all before the sun was barely awake.

Grandma plucked chickens for supper and keep the feathers to stuff pillows with.

Grandma sewed, and showed her DIL's how to make store-quality clothing.

Grandma could make grown men behave with just one raised eyebrow, stop fights just by standing up, and stop gossip just by stepping into the room.

Grandma was a kind and gentle woman who also had a no-nonsense streak, rock solid determination, and a backbone of steel. I mangled my ankle one day doing what I was told not to do on the back spokes of my cousin's bike and had to go to the hospital - the doctor there was kinda uppity and did not stitch it; it was healing badly. When I was changing the bandage a few weeks later, my grandmother saw my ankle and was furious. But she calmly said, "George, get the car and drive me into town." A short while later, she was back with a slip of paper with a doctor's appointment on it. She had enough clout to raise hell at the hospital and get the doctor who did not take care of me 'properly' fired; and I saw the other doctor the following week - my scab was painstakingly removed and I was stitched before leaving that doctor's office.

I have a wide scar on my ankle, but every time I see it - I smile. My grandma loved me and did what she had to do to so my ankle would heal without undue complications.

My bike spokes scar; right down to the bone.

Grandma made each child feel special without singling them out for special favors or pampering them to the point of spoiling.

My paternal grandmother looked like a twin to granny from the Beverly Hillbillies.

Seriously.

Grandma Rachel Newman-Brockway; 60+ years old.

In case you can't tell ... I LOVED MY GRANDMOTHER.

And I do my best to imitate her every chance I can.

BABY BIRDS!

I have baby birds in the birdhouse Bob built for me 😊

I was pruning the decorative Maple tree – when I heard the unmistakable cheeping of baby birds.

BABY BIRDS!

I’ve waited years to hear that sound.

The bird couple that sets up house in that bird house every Spring since we moved in here in June of 2017 always laid eggs … but they were empty eggs (I’d find them when cleaning the bird house in the Fall). So, I am elated to know there is a bird nursery in effect this year.

Unmistakable cheeping.

I also weeded the front flowerbeds, placed my geranium pots on the front porch stairs, watered all the planter boxes: and met another new neighbor; they have actually been here a year, but have been following State mandates – today, I guess she just finally had enough of insleeze’s nonsense (our county is back to phase 2 again), and decided to cross the street and introduce herself.

She said, “I saw you out here today, so I thought I’d come and get to know you – my name is Gina”.

And of course, I was a mess … I’d been doing ‘spruce up chores’: I was wearing grubby {work} clothes, had dirt under my fingernails from weeding, and my hair was sticking to me (it was high 70’s). But, we talked for about an hour.

And Betsy stopped for a quick “hi”, too; on her way to downtown.

Tomorrow, I think I’ll start planting the rest of the garden boxes.
