PLANNING BOB’S CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICE

Friday I met with Bob’s sister, Merry, to brainstorm some ideas for Bob’s Celebration of Life service: this is literally my 2nd funeral – I usually don’t even go when there is a funeral. I just can’t: I want to remember them the way they WERE and skip the way they went out. My FIL’s funeral 6-1/2 years ago, was the 1st one I ever attended with my husband and I was a mess before the day was out! I love my FIL; he was a good man: Bob was a lot like his father – kind, gentle, generous to a fault, loved his family, was devoted to his wife, a good provider, easy-going, always ready to lend a helping hand … a GOOD person to know. I am not implying that either were saints, BUT they came pretty close to sainthood as far as I am concerned ;-)

And I can’t skip Bob’s Celebration of Life gathering; ((((I)))), more than anyone else, needs to BE present.

Anyway.

Merry and I tossed thoughts back and forth and came up with a workable, informal, inclusive type of gathering. Rosburg Hall is booked – foods will be provided by the Hall (they have people on call that will provide a buffet of foods), and attendees that have food allergies can bring their own dishes and drop them at the Hall before proceeding to Eden Valley Cemetery to our familial plot which will have been prepared ahead of time – I will be at the cemetery way ahead of everyone because I want to be there while it is being prepared to have my final moments alone with Bob before his cremains are placed. Then the rest of the family/friends will arrive and gather to pay their respects, share Scriptures that speak to the moment if they so choose, and of course a sharing of personal memories with Bob as the focus. At the close of that gathering, there will be backtracking to the Hall to eat, catch-up chit-chat, and sharing of more memories.

Before I left Merry’s, I laughed and said, “You all thought it was pretty funny one time when Bob and I were visiting, and I said “‘I thought Bob looked like a golden god’ when we were dating” – but it is true: he was eye candy; but awesomeness with substance.” And Merry laughed and said, “Well Val, you were right though – Bob was a good-looking man!”

And he really was.

Bob’s Graduation Class picture: he is 3rd from the right, upper corner. He filled that suit out real fine ;-)

He was tall and physically fit – not muscle bound to the point of ridiculousness like some men think they need to be: Bob was always comfortable in his own skin; he didn’t feel the need to preen and strut his stuff. But people sat up and noticed him whenever he showed up because he was {all that} and more. When he spent time in the sun … and he did, constantly … he tanned beautifully to a chestnut brown skin color with a golden sheen, his hair took on golden sun-kissed streaks throughout it, and his gorgeous hazel eyes even had gold flecks in them that swam and pulsed around his iris’. And that sexy smile of his was pure gold. He was “golden”. His physique rivaled any of the paintings of ancient ‘gods’. And he was magnificent to look at when he was actively engaged in water skiing, golfing, working around the house, ect.: his form was excellent and his motions fluid. Not only was he handsome, he was beauty in action.

Bob’s football picture – number 27. He wisely kept this from me because he knew how much I loathe football: I do not like it at all! It is a blood sport and kids die on the field. I never gawked at the school jocks. I never went to football games. I did not watch them on TV with family; and I do not want to hear them in the background at holiday gatherings. I truly did NOT KNOW when I married him in 1974 that I was saying “I do/I will” to the LOCAL FOOTBALL STAR! He was very wise to keep THAT INFO close to his chest until the ring was on my finger.

He was altogether attractive. And I never tired of looking ;-)

In May sometime, I will be making a trip to Eden Valley Cemetery alone to time the drive, jot down directions – including landmarks, and just enjoy a day of “going home”. I have always considered that far end of Wahkiakum County “home” … looooong before I even met Bob face to face and learned his name, I spent every weekend in Graysriver: I walked there from Skamokawa and Cathlamet and it was an all-day-walkabout – I liked walking, and I had a nice set of legs because of it. LOL.

I did not know until after we were married that Bob’s mother’s family were early Washington pioneering families that had settled in and owned quite a bit of property in the Rosburg area, making the valley their final home. When I married Bob August 27th,1974, the valley really became my “home” too in a real sense:

Us on our Wedding day 1974

We actually looked at houses for sale there before buying here 20 months ago, but the asking prices were flat out ridiculous given what was being offered. But at any rate Bob's cremains will be going "home" in August. And I want to make sure everyone can get there without any snafus. Immediate family members and friends who have family themselves in Graysriver/Naselle area, know exactly where to go and how to get there; but children and grandchildren who left the area decades ago and rarely ever go any further than Longview if/when they come to visit, won’t remember how to get there – some grandchildren have NEVER BEEN past Rosburg Hall when Family Reunions were held there years ago, before Bob Sr. passed from this life to the next.

So it is necessary I make the solo drive next month to time the drive, and get the required information - I already know it, but I need to accurately jot it down for others who do not. It will be a difficult drive this time around because Bob won’t be with me … and the next time I make the drive, I will be ferrying his cremains to their final resting place.

Familial Eden Valley Cemetery established 1885 -http://edenvalleycemetery.weebly.com/

I had thought that I would ride to Eden Valley cemetery with the kids come August 30th, but thinking on it the other day I think it best that I take our car and drive solo even if I will be an emotional wreck: (1) I will be going directly to the cemetery waaay ahead of everyone else (2) It will be a highly charged emotional day – I may need to occasionally pull over into more than one of the several turnouts along the way before actually arriving in Eden Valley (3) the kids' car will already be pretty full – Alex with his 2 girls – 1 coming in from the east coast, probably with her fella; Alyna will be coming with her fiancΓ©, Liam. I really need to take our car. And I pray I don’t jar the car in any way that will damage his headstone …

DEADLY MYSTERIOUS TERRORBUG

Bacteria are rebelling; they are evolving and turning the tide against antibiotics by outsmarting science's wonder drugs.

IT IS CRAZY OUTSIDE TODAY

It is C.R.A.Z.Y. outside today!

The winds blowing in off the river are hard, making trees bend and moan when they are hit with strong gusts.

The pelting rain literally skips and sweeps down the street - driven hard by the strong gusts.

The brave birds feeding at the bird feeder Bob deigned and built for me a few years ago dig their toes into the mesh and hang on while the feeder rocks and jolts, riding out the strong gusts.

Torn and shredded tree litter litters the street and driveways ... and the street gutters are choking on the littering debris.

Wasn't this supposed to be March's thing: "in like a lion, out like a lamb"?

Meanwhile, the sky IS ROBIN EGG BLUE and The sun is trying valiantly to shine through galloping fluffy clouds overhanging this weather mayhem.

It is crazy outside today.

SHOFAR - NEW YEAR 2019 Rosh Hashanah

WHIRLWIND DAY/SABBATH BREAK

Busy, busy, busy!

That is what today has been from start to finish.

First off, I noticed a lot of activity around the bird feeder:

Ring-necked Turtle Dove
Bracing itself against the rain & harsh river winds. Kinda cute just sitting there.
Red-winged Blackbird
I haven’t figured this little redheaded fella out yet ... can’t find it in my bird identification books. It has orange spots on its upper shoulders above its wings - they show in the following picture.
A brilliant yellow American Goldfinch joined it. Bob would have got a kick out of seeing the yellow one. And he would have helped me research the other until we found out what it is ...
I also gave my froggy birdbath a much needed deep cleaning.

Then around noon I visited my SIL Merry for about an hour to brainstorm some ideas for Bob’s Celebration of Life gathering August 30th; it will be very informal, but still familial considerations have to be taken into account – some people have food allergies, so we have to plan for that. Bob’s mother is 89 years old this year, plans have to be in place for any age related complications that may arise. Who to notify … she knew relatives I hadn’t even met that may want to attend, so plans have to be made to contact/accommodate them. Food. Travel considerations. Reserving Rosburg Hall – family gathering place for generations. Contacting cemetery caretakers to prepare the area, having someone on hand to place the urn: the hole needs to be 4 feet deep – I am 5’2” with a short arm reach: someone other than me needs to place the urn. Though we are Christians, we are not religious people, so there will no minister giving a sermon – instead I will be asking those who wish to do so, to share a Scripture as well as a personal memory of Bob; and for those who are pagans or on the fence about where they stand spiritually, they can just share a special memory. But the gathering is about Bob, and Bob WAS a Christian and now resides in Heaven – THAT will be the theme, and if people are going to be offended, they don’t have to attend the gathering. LOTS of things to bat around this morning. This will be my 1st funeral thingee, I am seriously out of my depth on this situation. All my life I have avoided funerals … but I can’t dodge this one. I, more than anyone else, needs to be in Eden Valley when Bob’s cremains are permanently laid to rest among his relatives. Eden Valley Cemetery is a private cemetery and only family members are there. I will call/text everyone next month so they can plan and rework their work schedules if they plan to attend the gathering.

Back home again, I picked up the mail and was delighted to see that my Territorial Company order had arrived. I was excited!

Super excited!

And a bit disappointed too – I hope I can find the fingerling spuds elsewhere and get an order in; I'll have to start the sage from seed - I think I can get a packet downtown …

As anticipated, the various transplants will arrive when it is safe to put them in the garden; maybe next year I will try starting them from seed:

Seeing that box full of gardening goodies fired my jets, and I started preparing for planting …

Making heat collars for my pepper plants yet to arrive – they are made out of plastic jug bottoms. I slit the bottoms and pulled them back/sharp edges crimped upwards with pliers.

The pepper plant stems can fit through the opening and hopefully the sharp edges will keep the slugs from chewing on them, as well as let some of the excess heat build-up escape. That is the plan anyway … we’ll see.
Making paper planting pots from newspaper strips.
Rolling them up ...
Pushing bottom edges together ...
Pressing the bottom edges firmly together with the Pot Maker Press ...
Cute little paper planting pot :-D I made 68 of them.
Preparing my seeding areas; kitchen Skylight area
Livingroom window areas

And tonight, after my busy, busy day, I am taking a much needed 3 day Sabbath Rest starting with enjoying a small goblet of Blackberry wine in a Sabbath goblet our daughter bought for us 24 years ago:

L’Chiam! “to life” :-D LOVE YOU Babe!

UNREPENTANT EVIL RUNS AMOK IN USA GOVERNMENT

This report really pisses me off:
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/senate-to-vote-on-born-alive-bill-to-protect-infants-who-survive-a-failed-abortion?fbclid=IwAR1KOHUomwlHLC44Y2D0UyeR61eCP3022wvRRHB5SifbF22SIZ5SQQhrRqw

The demoncrats block a bill that would save the lives of babies born alive following a failed abortion ... but they insist ALL must pay for homosexual medical issues such as a risky lifestyle that will surely lead to death, or issues such as transgender reassignment surgeries ON CHILDREN AS YOUNG AS 5 YEARS OLD as well as teens and adults.

In short, demoncrats are all for brainwashing and pick-pocketing society to insure that a socially retarding and mentally unstable lifestyle be paid for by those WHO DO NOT SUPPORT  said CHOSEN lifestyle because "it is the humane thing to do"; BUT the demincrats WILL NOT support saving the lives of millions of babies who DO NOT CHOOSE TO DIE simply because they do not consider saving the lives of babies "humane".

It is idiocy and insanity at it's height.

A.B.A.B.Y.F.O.R.G.O.D.'S.S.A.K.E!

Born at the mercy of those around it's entry into this world, and totally helpless and reliant on those claiming to be adults; at least until the age of 13.

And America's "adults" (if such a responsible title can even be given out to claimants in today's twisted society), embrace insanity - willfully and wholeheartedly, seeing nothing wrong with murdering a helpless baby AFTER IT IS BORN. It is bad enough they selfishly can't wait to kill it invitro ... but AFTER a baby IS BORN and is waiting for someone to pick it up and cuddle it for comfort and security ... and waiting for someone to welcome it ... is mindless and unrepentant evil.

Where are the Fostering Programs that can't wait to swoop in and grab kids away from their "unworthy parents" and hand them over to strangers "to save the children"?

A.B.S.E.N.T!

And suspiciously silent.

It takes YEARS for childless couples to adopt a child - and reels of unwarranted red tape to wade through just to be turned down for some asinine reason that is governmental twaddle. But homosexual couples can mince and dance their way into any DHSH office and walk out with adopted children practically before the day is out.

This topic of infanticide should not even be up for debate! I am ashamed for every person who cannot see that killing babies is just plain evil.

I am ashamed for america because America no longer has a moral compass and no longer feels shame on any level.

SPICE & SOMETHING NICE Recipes ;-)

Today dawned a bit on the nippy side, and it never warmed up despite the sunny patches that showed up now and then; the day needed a little spice.

So I decided I would have chili for Supper tonight. I made Diana’s Chili, an old recipe I clipped from the local newspaper and have been making for decades and posted on Blog: https://jeastofeden.blogspot.com/2017/10/a-week-worth-of-meals-in-1-hour.html a little over 2 years ago when our life was going smoothly and we had a lifetime together to look forward to. Well, our lifetime together ended 4 months ago, but chili still serves a need …

I finished up the male shoulder covering I started working on Wednesday at Craft Meet for the hospital donation foundation; I have not made anything for males, so Wednesday I got busy on that and finished this prayer shawl shoulder wrap up last night. The pattern is so simple I could have done it in my sleep. Seriously.

Here is the link: https://www.shawlministry.com/instructions.html – I used a size L crochet hook and I did not get fancy with mine; I did not use bulky yarn like the original pattern calls for because I know from what my friend Marla suffered during her cancer bouts that eventually took her life, cancer patients do not like heavy weights on them – their body just hurts too much. So when I got busy on my “man item”, I stuck with worsted Red Heart Super Saver yarn in a variegated blue that fits a man who may shy away from wanting a shoulder wrap yet knows he needs it anyway (kinda save them embarrassment and help them keep their dignity in an undignified situation). I did not use beads, charms, or anything else dangly as those would get in the way. I did, however tie a simple skinny tassel at each end for color; and if they don’t like the tassel … or it gets in the way of easy fluid movements (critically sick people do not have the energy to deal with frustrating things that get in their way) it is easy to remove simply:

And I started on a colorful granny stitch shawl for a female last night and hope to have it finished tonight …

Then I will make another male shoulder covering. I still have enough variegated blue yarn to do that – and it hardly takes any time at all to complete. I think I will just work on adult items this month.

You know, I am craving an apple dessert to go with my chili tonight. I do have some apple pie filling in the freezer that needs to get used – especially now that my Patio Apple Trees are showing new Spring growth; these apple trees are 14 years old and they have survived 2 major moves …

…. and I am hoping for a good apple crop this Fall – the harvest from these trees won’t be huge because my trees are small and set fruit (usually a cluster of 3, which I scale back to 2 for good sized fruits) very close to their center trunks, but the apple crop is sufficient for a couple; or a widow flying solo. So I am making Mother’s Apple Crisp for tonight’s desert (recipe follows), improvising with a bag of the frozen apple pie filling – the making of the Crisp will be super easy peasy tonight ;-)

This picture does not do this dessert justice

Spice and something nice will round my day out just fine :-D

MOTHER’S APPLE CRISP ~Serves 6

¾ c. firmly packed Brown Sugar * ¾ c. all-purpose Flour * ½ c. granulated Sugar * ½ c. old-fashioned Oats * 1 tsp. grnd. Cinnamon * ½ c. (1 stick) Butter, cut into pieces * 6 medium sized Granny Smith Apples (about 2-1/4 pounds), peeled, cored, and sliced into ½-inch thick slices * ¼ c. Orange Juice * 1 TBSP. dark Rum * ½ tsp. Vanilla Extract * ¼ c. chopped Pecans * Vanilla Ice Cream, optional

Preheat oven to 325-degrees. Butter an 8x8x2-inch baking pan.

Combine brown sugar, flour, sugar, oats, and ground cinnamon in a large bowl. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Place sliced apples in another large bowl and sprinkle with half the crumb mixture – toss to combine. Transfer apples to prepared baking pan.

Mix orange juice, rum, and vanilla extract in a small bowl. Pour juice mixture over apple mixture.

Add chopped pecans to the remaining crumb mixture and sprinkle over apple mixture.

Bake until juices bubble and topping is dry – about 40 minutes. Serve crisp warm with ice cream if desired.
