I designed this baby blanket yesterday afternoon, and finished it around 1:30 A.M. this morning.
The stitches are simple, quick, and easy.
Materials: Pink – Super-Size skein, Bernat Baby Sport yarn; skein Variegated Baby yarn; #G or 6/4¼ Susan Bates aluminum crochet hook; Scissors, Tapestry Needle
Terms:
ch = chain
cc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
rpt = repeat
ea = each
MC = main color
CC = contrast color
EO = end off
With MC, make a ch of 149 ct; sc ea st across row. Ch 1 - T.
Row 1: Dc in 5th ch from hook, skip next 4 ch, *(dc-ch 1-dc) in each of next 2 ch, skip next 4 ch; rpt from * across row – end with (dc-ch 1-dc) in last ch, and turn.
Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as a dc + ch 1), dc in next ch-1 space, skip next ch-1 space, *(dc-ch 1- dc) I each of next 2 dc, skip next 2 ch-1 spaces; rpt from * across to turning ch (dc-ch 1-dc) in 3rd ch of turning ch, turn.
Repeat Row 2 for pattern to a length of 29”.
Then sc 98 sts evenly across the uneven top edge so piece will measure 28” wide; ch 1, turn and work another row of sc across top edge + 1 extra sc in the corner.
Work 114 sc evenly along side + 1 extra sc in corner … 98 sts evenly across bottom edge (it will look bunchy, but make sure you have 98 sts spaced evenly) + 1 extra sc in corner… and 114 sc up the other side edge, + 1 extra sc in the corner. EO MC.
You are now ready to add the trim.
Vintage Picot Shell Edging: With CC, start in 3rd st from corner with 1 sc; * skip 2 st, dc in next st, ch 3, sl st in 1st ch (this makes a picot); dc in same st, work picot; dc in same st, make picot; dc in same st, skip 2 st, 1 sc in next st; rpt from * around entire blanket – having a picot shell in each corner. EO and weave in all ends.
