WINTER BLUES BUSTER ROADTRIP

We actually took this roadtrip Sunday morning, but I haven’t been able to slow down long enough to get these pictures posted until now. I have deliberately been keeping my pace quick and staying busy to keep my mind from worrying about my daughter and my grandson. I know Elohim is more capable of safe-guarding them and looking to their best interests in this whole mess, but I also know that if my thoughts are given free rein I will drive myself crazy with worry and concern. So I just don’t slow down long enough to ‘go there’ …

Anyway, I had had enough of being cooped up with the rainy weather, so as soon as I noticed the lull in the showers I said, “Let’s go revisit that road in St. Helens!” Hubs asked me to be more specific, so I described the area and road in mind, and he told me where we’d come out at the drive’s end, and off we went ;-)

I packed a quick lunch, grabbed some bottles of tea, and snagged the camera on the way out the door: we always go off track while road-tripping and veer from our original plans and I wanted to be prepared to capture unexpected photo opportunities.

Sure enough, when we reached St. Helens and turned onto the road I wanted to revisit, we ended up taking the loooooooooooooooong way home through Jewell and backtracking from Astoria. It was a nice long drive that freed my spirit and cleared my thoughts, replacing them with signs of evidence of approaching Spring along the roadway, and the sight of the huge Elk herd in Jewell – with the albino elk cow in residence :-D

So we pulled over and I snapped a few pics. I hope you enjoy them too:

The Elk are out today!
This is a fairly large herd ... and very docile. I counted 111.
The albino Elk. I believe it is a cow, I've never seen antlers on it. I don’t know if she has calved or not, there is no evidence of light colored calves in the herd.
A bull ...
A second bull.
A third bull.
A fourth bull.
A fifth bull. If there are more, we couldn't spot them.
The albino and regular Roosevelt colored Elk.
I'm glad the Elk put in a show toady. Even though I’m pretty used to seeing Elk now, they always excite me when I see ‘em again.
Down the road a heartbeat, we saw the rest of the herd!
Hubs counted 63 in this field – that makes a total of 174 Elk between the 2 fields which actually run together behind the Reserve Office.
This field must be the Bachelor pasture because ALL the bulls in this herd had large racks of horns where the other antlers in the previous field are much smaller … meaning they are just coming into their “teen years” and not fully mature yet, and probably why they are free to mingle with the cows.
These Elk are not afraid of humans at all. Of course there is no hunting allowed on the Reserve. They look scruffy because they are getting ready to shed their winter coat; when the heavy fur drops off, they are very sleek and look very majestic and baeutiful.
The bulls didn't even rise to the challenging bugling Hubs did to arouse their ire ...
... just looked up then and went right back to munching grass.
These bulls didn't even blink an eye or twitch a muscle.

Thursday Bible Study - MATTHEW 15

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW ~ Chapter 15

Then the Pharisees and scribes came up to Yeshua from Jerusalem and asked, ‘Why do Your disciples violate the traditions of our forefathers? For they do not wash their hands before they eat their meal.’ He answered them, “Why do you, yourselves, violate the commandments of Elohei by your traditions? For Elohei said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ (Exodus 20:12), and ‘He who curses his father or mother must be put to death’ (Exodus 21:17). But you say that you do not have to honor your father or mother if you give as an excuse, ‘What I have that might be of help to you, I have dedicated to Elohei’. You have thus by your traditions made worthless the commandments of Elohei. You hypocrites! Isaiah spoke about you when he said, ‘This people honor Me with their lips but their heart is far from Me.’ And their worship is to no purpose, for they teach doctrines that are only commandments of men’ (Isaiah 29:13).

Now, calling the people to Him, He said, “Listen, and take heed! It is not what goes into a man’s mouth that defiles him, but what comes out of it.” His disciples then came to Him and said, ‘Do You know that the Pharisees took offense at what You just said?’ He answered, “Every plant that My heavenly Father has not planted shall be rooted up. Leave them alone. They are only blind leaders of the blind. If one blind man leads another, they will both fall into the ditch.” Simon (Peter) then said to Him, ‘Explain this teaching to us.’ He answered, “Don’t you – even you – understand? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and then on until it is eliminated? But whatever comes out of the mouth, that comes from the heart, and that defiles a person. Wicked thoughts, murder, adultery, depravity, theft, falsehood, cursing … these come out of the heart. Such things as these defile a man, whereas eating a meal with unwashed hands does not defile him.”

Yeshua now went away, going back into the districts of Tyre and Sidon. And there was a Cannanite woman from there who came to Him and said, ‘Take pity on me, Adonai, Son of David! My daughter has a demon, and is very miserable.’  But He did not answer her. His disciples said to Him, ‘Send her away, for she keeps on crying after us.’ In reply, He said, “I was not sent to anyone but to the lost sheep of the House of Israel.” But she came and fell down before Him pleading, ‘Adonai! Help me!’ He answered, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” But she said, ‘True, Adonai, and yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.’ Then Yeshua answered, “O woman, your faith is great! You shall have what you want.” And from that moment her daughter was healed.

Yeshua then went further away from there, going back toward the Sea of Galilee. Then he went up into a mountain and sat down there. Great crowds of people came, bringing with them the lame, the blind, the deaf, the crippled and many others. They laid them at His feet and He healed them. As the people noted that the dumb now talked, the lame walked, and the blind could see, they marveled and praised the God of Israel. Then Yeshua called His disciples together and said, “I feel pity for the crowd which has been with Me 3 days with nothing to eat. I don’t want to send them home fasting, for fear they might faint on the way.” But His disciples said to Him, ‘Where can we get enough bread here in the wilderness to satisfy so great a crowd?’ “How many loaves do we have?” Yeshua asked. They replied, ‘Seven, and a few small fishes.’ He then ordered the people to sit down on the ground. And he took the 7 loaves and the fishes and gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples, and His disciples handed them out to the people. Everyone ate and was satisfied. And when they took up the leftovers, they had 7 baskets full. 4000 men were fed, besides women and children. Then He dismissed the crowd, got into a boat, and came to the place called Magadan.

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW ~ Chapter 14

A timely and memorable passage of Scripture. If you have been reading my Blog then you know that I have had a life threatening experience this week (http://jeastofeden.blogspot.com/2018/01/what-week-glad-its-over.html) and have mentioned more than once that even though we love our new home perhaps it would be prudent to sell it and move to a place where I won’t be gasping for breath every day and looking into the face of the grim reaper every other month. But that simply is not feasible … we cannot now sell our remodeled home for less than we purchased it for in June 2017 and kiss off the massive amount of $$$$’s we put into it to make it livable: yanking carpets and replacing with wood floors to help it healthy for weak lungs … and then the whole water leak episode (http://jeastofeden.blogspot.com/2017/09/water-damage.html)/(http://jeastofeden.blogspot.com/2017/09/what-difference-day-makes.html)/(http://jeastofeden.blogspot.com/2017/09/happy-new-year.html)/(http://jeastofeden.blogspot.com/2017/10/3-week-house-review.html) … as well as the necessary and long overdue roofing that needed to be done before the rainy season which the seller refused to do or help fund (http://jeastofeden.blogspot.com/2017/09/2-state-hop.html); bottom line is that we cannot undersell. We’re into this home for double what we bought it for and the realtor wants us to list it for below what we paid for it in the first place! Not happening; we are not frivolous stewards of the $$$$ Elohim blesses us with. We are far from rich, but we are not foolhardy either, and we would be fools indeed to undersell and allow someone else to reap the benefits of Hubs hard earned, hard won, and wisely spent monies and Chris’ crews' hard work to get our home finished in the short time frame they did it in: the realtor’s quote really was ridiculous; and I let her know that.

I say all that to say this: selling our last home and buying this one was a true miracle (http://jeastofeden.blogspot.com/2017/06/new-home-d.html) – house just don’t sell overnight, and people just don’t buy new houses in a matter of hours … but ours did – and we did ;-) For sure Elohim was in the details. So given the miraculous background behind moving here and the spendy speedy remodeling as well as the ridiculously lowball selling quote, we’re staying despite the severe environmental & allergic asthma attacks and are reminded yet again of Job’s story which bring to mind that though we are now currently experiencing a Job-like-moment in our own lives where everything looks dismal, we are assured that if we hang tight and hang tough and hold on to Him, Who is our support, our only help in times of need, and our all in all … we are assured a breakthrough that will benefit greater than we can ever imagine.

What a reminder! Not only about our current medical situation, but also concerning our daughter and grandson's present circumstances in which they are once again being placed in protective custody to keep them out of harms' way. We all could really use a breakthrough that would benefit greater than anything we can ever imagine - our little prince deserves a life free from stress and fear. And they both need salvation - perhaps THAT is the silver lining in this oppressive and overhanging black cloud on their lives that keeps us from enjoying what most families take for granted Our daughter was raised in a Christian home - NOT a religious home ... a Christian home ... and she knows better than the life she rebelliously chose to experience: her children, especially her toddler son, deserve better. Fearful living is not living.

And today’s Bible Study adds strength to that reminder :-D

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW ~ Chapter 14

Chapter 1: At that time King Herod heard reports about Yeshua. He said to his servants, ‘This must be John the Baptist. He has risen from the dead. That is why miracles are performed by him.’ For Herod had taken John and bound him and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife. Because John had said to him, “It is unlawful for you to have her.” He really wanted to kill him, but he feared for the people, for they believed that he was a prophet. Then, as Herod was celebrating his birthday, Herodias’ daughter danced at the party and delighted Herod. He then promised her an oath that he would give her anything she might ask. Urged by her mother, she said, ‘Give me the head of John the Baptist on a platter.’ The king was shocked, but because of his oath and his dinner guests, he so ordered it. He sent word and had John beheaded in prison. And his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. John’s disciples went and took the body and buried it. Then they came and told it to Yeshua.

And when Yeshua heard it, He went by boat to a desert place by Himself. But people heard of it, and a crowd from the towns followed Him in foot. When Yeshua reached the place, He saw a great throng of people, and He felt sympathy for them and healed their sick. Toward nightfall, His disciples came to Him and said, ‘This is a desert and it is late. Dismiss the crowds so that they can go to the villages and buy themselves food.’ “There is no need for them to go away,” said Yeshua to them. “Give them something to eat.” They said to Him, ‘Why we do not have mush here – only 5 loaves and 2 fishes.’ Then He said to them. “Give them to Me.” Having then the 5 loaves and 2 fishes, and looking up to heaven, He asked a blessing, broke the loaves, gave them to His disciples, and the disciples in turn served the people. Then they all ate and were satisfied, and when they picked up what was left over, they still had 12 baskets full. About 5000 mean had eaten, besides women and children.

Thereupon Yeshua made the disciples get into the boat and cross over to the other side before Him, while He stayed on to dismiss the crowd. When he had sent the people away, He went up into the mountain by Himself to pray. Night had come. He was there all alone. The boat was by this time in the middle of the lake, tossed about by the waves, for the wind was strong. Then towards daybreak, Yeshua went out to them, walking on the sea. The disciples were terrified when they saw Him walking on the sea, and they shouted, ‘It is a ghost!’ They cried out with fear. Then Yeshua at once said to them, “Take courage. Do not be afraid! It is I.” Simon (called Peter), answering, exclaimed, ‘Adonai, if it is You, tell me to come to You on the water!’ Yeshua answered, “Come!” and Simon stepped out of the boat and walked on the water on his way to Yeshua. But when he noted the fury of the wind he became frightened, and, beginning to sink, he cried out, ‘Save me, Adonai!’ Yeshua immediately stretched out His hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith! Why did you doubt?” As soon as they reached the boat, the wind quieted down. Those in the boat then came to Him in worship, saying, ‘Truly You are ben Elohei (the Son of God)!’

Now having come across the lake, they were in the land of Gennesaret. The men there recognized Him and sent word to the whole neighborhood, and they brought Him everyone who was sick. They begged Him that they might touch only the edge of His garment, and as many as did so were made well.

WHAT A WEEK - Glad it's Over!

The daytrip through the Gorge actually took place a week ago today, but I didn’t have time to get the pictures posted until now.

It has been a strange week ending with 2 deaths and a near death: the near death was mine last night when I had an allergy fueled full-fledged-asthma attack around 9 p.m. The other 2 deaths were a 2nd cousin who passed from this life in hospice, and a cutting-of-the-ties spiritual death of a man I knew and loved very much; but is now anathema … dead to me.

Hubs was dealing with the heartbreaking death of his Aunt’s son earlier in the month; and after learning about Charlie’s shocking double life, I was immediately sick to my stomach and needed to get away and clear my head while reeling from the effects of deceptive betrayal – and the Gorge seemed like the perfect place to do that. So off we went …

Oregon's Mount Hood seen coming into Camas, Washington. 58-degrees today!
Washington's Mount Adams playing peek-a-boo along the drive ...
Much better view the closer we get to the Glenwood turnoff.
Beautiful. There used to be open access roads for a closer view from Troutdale, and we went that way many times with our granddaughter when she was the same age as our little prince is now, but 7 or 8 years ago a major landslide stopped that. And the State doesn't seem to be too inclined to open that backroad back up. Darn.
Mount Adams is on Reservation land, so permits are required to visit it.  All access roads are blocked.
I like the pine trees here in the Gorge - so tall and fluffy with long, thin needles used to make woven watertight Indian Baskets.
Heading back towards home via Goldendale-Klickitat Junction. We took Klickitat because it's 2 hours quicker and the temperature is starting to dip. Mount Adams is one of 4 major volcanic monuments in our State.
Mount Hood across the gorge over in Oregon. Sun is fading in the Washington Gorge. Steel 'Martian' standing sentinel in the field. LOL

Little John’s ‘celebration of life’ was Saturday afternoon and Hubs went. When Hubs got back home and walked through the door, I started sneezing nonstop and wheezing a little, but it didn’t appear to be alarming because I’d had a runny nose for 2 days so sneezing didn’t seem out of the ordinary, and I’ve wheezed a little every day of my life. Nothing raised a red flag. The evening was pretty much uneventful other that Hubs telling me about the family/friends celebration of life gathering at Rosburg Hall. The alarm happened at bedtime  while kissing Hubs goodnight – a simple kiss was nearly the end of this granny! Hubs must have brought a piggy-backing-allergen home with him from the gathering that set my system into a full blown near-death scenario: and it wasn’t apparent until I got close enough to him for it to affect me. I kissed his head, he hugged me … I went into a coughing fit that left me gasping for breath as my throat swelled and I could feel my body catapulting me into an anaphylaxis situation. The coughing led to serious wheezing. The strenuous wheezing increased and I struggled for breath and fought back panic when I felt my chest beginning to ache while my throat swelled and my heart rate increased. It was bedroom dark so Hubs couldn’t see the desperation in my eyes while I pushed against his embrace and stumbled towards the bathroom where I hoped I could spit the drool (I could not swallow at this point because my throat was closed with the swelling). The whole time I am gasping and wheezing loudly – and grabbing at my throat … and I am stumbling towards the bathroom with spontaneous tears and uncontrollable drool rolling down my face: I am glad the light was off!

I finally made the bathroom and realized I had a following when Hubs switched the light on and dug around for my emergency inhaler. Of course it was useless at this point because I could draw NO air into my lungs until the swelling in my throat went down. It was scary, I won’t play that down. But I learned with the bee sting a few years back where the same thing happened (I had no idea I was allergic to bee stings until I found that I was severely allergic to a bee sting when stung), that if I calm down and erase all thoughts from my mind that eventually my body will respond in kind and the swelling will abate enough to draw a breath - even if only a shallow one. So I closed my eyes so I couldn’t see Hub’s concerned eyes … or my red face with pop-eyes and facial strain marks from the exertion of the coughing and wheezing … and finally I could take 2 shallow puffs from the inhaler. The allergy-induced-steel bands around my chest fell off and my heart stopped pounding so fiercely. But the tears continued – I wasn’t crying, but my body had gone into overdrive in the bedroom; and I spit out some gunk that came up when the swelling in my throat eased. It was blood, and that concerned Hubs who said that maybe he shouldn’t go to sleep after all; to which I said, “go to sleep; it’s over now. The blood is nothing. Really. My throat tore a little when it swelled and I was coughing. I’m fine; go to bed.”

But it was a scary episode.

And one I don’t care to repeat. My throat and chest is very tender today and I ache from my neck to my sternum; and I am still having some breathing issues, but unlike last night, I don’t feel like the grim reaper is standing at my elbow ready to strike, at the moment.

I am thankful for the emergency inhaler on hand, BUT I do NOT want to live at the mercy of an available steroid – I don’t do drugs of any type, and it irritates me that I have an inhaler in my home now. Moving again sounds good to me because I truly do believe that the toxic atmosphere of our current locale has so weakened my lungs that anything “ify” will make them seize up. We’ll have to see in the next few months how that thought plays out. All I know is that until we moved into the city I did not have an asthma attack at any time in the past 20 years. And I did a Bazaar at Rosburg Hall in the Fall and suffered no ill effects at all. That alone tells me that it’s the current locale that is the main culprit behind last night’s episode; and the one in November which had baby boy and me in ER.

And when this body dies I do not want to be as aware of it as I was last night. Just sayin …

But the trip up the Gorge was a fun trip and a great escape ;-)

Thursday Bible Study - Matthew 13

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW ~ Chapter 13

Chapter 13: That same day Yeshua went out of the house and sat down by the seaside. Great numbers of people gathered around Him there, so He went into a boat and sat down, while the crowd stayed on the beach. He told them many things, using parables to teach them, for example: “A farmer went out to sow, and as he sowed, some seeds fell by the roadside, and the birds came and ate them. And some fell among the stones, with not much soil, but they sprang up at once because they did not have depth of earth. As the sun rose, they were scorched, and because they had no deep roots, they dried up. Ad some fell among thorns, and as the thorns grew up, they choked them. But some fell in good ground and gave fruit, some a hundredfold, some sixty and some thirty. Listen! You who have ears to hear with, hear!”

His disciples came to Him and asked, ‘Why do You speak to them in parables?’ “Because,” He answered, “you are privileged to understand the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, but they are not so privileged. For if a man has possessions, he will get more until he has more than enough, but if he is poor, even the little that he has will be taken away from him. Therefore I speak to them in parables, because though they have eyes they do not see, and though they have ears they do not hear; they just don’t understand. There is a prophecy in Isaiah which comes to fulfillment in them: ‘You hear and hear but do not understand; you look and look but do not perceive. The heart of this people has become fat and stupid; they hardly hear with their ears; they shut their eyes tight. They do not want to see with their eyes nor hear with their ears, nor understand with their hearts lest they be converted and healed by Me’ (Isaiah 6:9-10). But your eyes are blessed, for they do see, and your ears, for they hear. I tell you that many prophets and righteous have longed to see what you are seeing, but they did not see it, and to hear what you are hearing, but they did not hear it. The parable of the sower is, then, for you to hear. When one hears the Word of the Kingdom but does not understand it, then the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown into the heart. This was the sowing by the wayside. And what was sown on stony ground is like the one who, on hearing the Word, gladly accepts it. But since it has no real root in him, it lasts only a little while. As soon as trials and persecutions come because of the Word, he at once gives it up. Then, as to what was sown among the thorns, that is like the one who listens to the Word, but the worries of this life and the love of money choke its message, and it yields nothing. And lastly, what was sown in good ground stands for those who listen to the Word and understand it, and consequently bear fruit, some as much as a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.

He told them another parable. “The Kingdom of Heaven,” He said, “is like a farmer who sowed good seed in his field. But while men slept, some enemy came and scattered seeds of weeds among the wheat, and went away. And when the blade sprouted and produced ears of grain, the weeds also appeared. The farmer’s servants then came to him and said, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How comes it, then, that there is also weeds?’ “A enemy must have done this,” he replied. The servants then asked him, ‘Shall we go then and weed them out?’ “No,” he said, “because when you pull up the weeds, you may by chance also uproot the wheat. So let them grow together till harvest time, and when the harvest comes, I shall give orders to the reapers to gather up the weeds first, and to bind them in bunches to be burned, and then to gather up the wheat and store it in My granary.””

Another parable He told them, as follows: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his field. Indeed, it is the smallest of seeds, but when it is grown it is larger than the herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the wild birds can come and roost among its branches.”

Yeshua gave them still another parable. “The Kingdom of Heaven,” said He, “is like leaven that a woman took and worked into three measures of flour until the whole bunch was leavened.”

All this He told the crowd in parables. In fact, Yeshua taught nothing to them except parables. This was done in fulfillment of the words of the prophet, “I will open My mouth in parables; I will tell about things kept secret from the beginning of the world” (Psalm 78:2). After Yeshua had dismissed the multitude and had gone to His house, the disciples came to Him and said, ‘Explain to us the parable about the weeds in the field.’ So He answered them, “It is the Son of Man who sows the good seed. The field is the world, and the good seed are the sons of the Kingdom, whereas the weeds are the sons of the evil one. The enemy who sowed them is Lucifer. The harvest is the end of time. The reapers are the angels. Just as the weeds are gathered together and burned in fire, so shall it be at the end of the world. The Son of man will send out His angels to gather up out of His Kingdom every wrongdoer and every cause of sin, and they will cast them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. But the righteous in their Father’s Kingdom will shine forth like the sun. He who has ears to hear with, let him hear.”

“Once more, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure buried in the field, which a man found and hid again. It gave him so much joy that he went and sold everything he had, and then bought that field.”

“Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant in search of rare pearls. When he came across one that was very precious, he went back and sold everything he had, and bought it.”

“Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a dragnet which was let down into the sea, gathering into it every fish of every sort. When it was filled, they drew it up onto the beach, sat down and sorted out the good fish, but threw the worthless back. Thus it will be at the end of time. Angels will come to separate the wicked from the upright. And they will cast the wicked into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”

Yeshua asked them, “Have you understood all this?” They said, ‘Yes, Adonai.’ He said to them, “This is the way it should be, every teacher trained in the Kingdom of Heaven should be like the master of a house who can supply from his storeroom things both old and new.”

When Yeshua had spoken these parables, He journeyed on. He came into His own neighborhood and taught in the synagogue there, and the people said in surprise, ‘Where did this man get such wisdom and power? Is he not the carpenter’s son, and is not his mother called Mariam? And are not James and Simon and Judah his brothers? And are not all his sisters living here? Then where did this man get all this?’ And they felt offended because of Him. But Yeshua said to them, “A prophet has honor everywhere except in his own land and his own home.” So He did not perform any miracles there, because of their unbelief.
