BABY SWEATER ~ Knit

Baby Sweaters. NB-3MO

I started work on these baby sweaters, 11 days ago.

That’s about the right timeframe from start to finish; considering I worked two at the same time.

I’ve made this pattern many times over the years: it is perfect for newborns. This is not my own pattern, but I like it ;-)

BABY SWEATER ~ Knit

Size: Directions are for Newborn to 3 months.

Materials: Fingering or Baby Yarn, 3-ply, 2 ct. 2-oz balls, knitting needles #1; 1 stitch holder.

Gauge: 7 sts= 1 inch; 13 rows = 1 inch.

Jacket: Begin at front edge; co 45 sts.

Rows 1-19: Work in garter st (k every row).

Row 20 (right side): *K 2, yo, k2 tog* - rpt from * to * across; end k 1.

Pattern established for sweater body.

Rpt rows 1-20 for pattern, twice: rpt rows 1-19, end wrong side. Mark end of last row for upper edge.

Shape Sleeve: Next row: Work pat row 20 across 15 sts; sl next 30 sts on a holder, cast on 34 sts for sleeve – 49 sts.

Beginning sleeve.

Work pat rows 1-20, 3 times. Work pat rows 1-18, end right side.

Back: Next Row: Bind off first 34 sts (sleeve); k 15.

Next Row: Work pat row 20 across the 15 sts on needle – and the 30 sts on the holder: 45 sts. Work pat rows 1-20 4 times; then pattern rows 1-19. End wrong side.

Working the back.
I work 2 sweaters at once; to save time and make sure they are same length.

Shape Sleeve: Next row: Work same as for the first sleeve; end pat row 18 on right side of work.

1st Sleeve & Back finished on the Baby Sweater; starting on 2nd sleeve.

Left Front: Next Row: Bind off first 34 sts (sleeve); k 15.

Back & 2nd sleeve finished on the Baby Sweater.

Next Row: Work pat row 20 cross the 15 sts on needle – and the 30 sts on the holder: 45 sts. Work pat rows 1-20 3 times; then pat rows 1-19 once. Bind off in knit.

Working on last portion of Baby Sweater; knitting 2 sweaters at once.

Yoke: From right side, pick up 1 st in every other row around upper edge of sweater body: 220 sts.

Baby Sweater body finished; ready for yoke work.

Next Row: From right side, k 1, *yo, k 3 tog, yo, k 4 tog*, rpt from * to * across, end last rpt yo, k 3 tog: 119 sts. Work in garter st for 23 rows.

Starting Yoke piece of Baby Sweater.

Eyelet Row: Next Row: *K 2, k 2 tog, yo*, rpt from * to * across; end last rpt yo, k 1, k2 tog: 119 sts. Bond off in knit.

Baby Sweater Yoke; drawstring eyelets.

Cuffs: From right side, pick up 1 st in every other row across lower edge of sleeve: 40 sts.

Work k 1, p 1 for 1 inch - original pattern cuff (as you can see in the pictures, I decided to do my cuffs a bit different this time - just to be different ;-)).

BO in ribbing. Work second sleeve cuff same as first.

Make a crochet 30-inch cord and thread trough neck eyelets (you cold also use a very thin piece of ribbon).

I like making a Twisted Cord for my Baby Sweaters.
Finished  ;-)
